Round 19 Preview

Last week's Betfred Super League had all the drama - will we see more of the same in Round 19?

Thursday 25 July

Huddersfield Giants v Leeds Rhinos (20.00) – Live on Sky Sports

There’s a West Yorkshire derby on Thursday night, as Huddersfield Giants welcome Leeds Rhinos to the John Smith’s Stadium, live exclusively on Sky Sports.

The Giants secured their first win under interim head coach Luke Robinson in Round 18, while the Rhinos are seeking their first victory under new head coach Brad Arthur.

Last time out, Huddersfield snatched a win in dramatic fashion at AMT Headingley Stadium - will we see more of the same as they go head-to-head in Round 19?

There are minimal changes to both sides for this weekend – Huddersfield’s Thomas Deakin returns to the 21-man squad after a Head Injury Assessment (HIA). Connor Carr is also named in the squad, replacing Oliver Wilson who will miss the remainder of the season with an injury.

For Leeds, David Fusitu’a drops out with an injury, so Ben Littlewood comes back into the team. James Bentley also returns from injury, and could make his first appearance since March.

Friday 26 July

Wigan Warriors v Warrington Wolves (20.00) – Live on Sky Sports

A blockbuster clash awaits on Friday night – and it’s 1st and 2nd who take centre stage at The Brick Community Stadium – live only on Sky Sports.

Table topping Wigan Warriors have Warrington Wolves chasing down top spot, as the race to the end of the regular season reaches its heights.

The Warriors suffered a shock defeat to Hull FC last Saturday after producing an uncharacteristic performance, while Sam Burgess’ Wolves overturned St Helens away from home in style.

Can they do the same to Saints’ rivals this time around?

Their last meeting came in the form of the 2024 Betfred Challenge Cup Final, and their last Super League meeting was in Round 13. Wigan were winners in both matches, but will they be winners in Round 19?

Warriors boss Matt Peet has made one change to his squad as Kruise Leeming replaces Taylor Kerr.

Warrington will be without James Harrison (suspension) and Stefan Ratchford (injury), but Toby King, Josh Thewlis, Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Jordy Crowther could all return from injury to face Wigan.

Expect a scintillating spectacle!

Leigh Leopards v St Helens (20.00) – Live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

The third game taking place on Friday is a big one – with Leigh hosting Saints at the Leigh Sports Village.

The Leopards come into this game on the back of two straight wins and will be hunting down the two points on offer as they look to keep their faint Play-Off hopes very much alive.

Saints have the better record against Leigh but could be on the back foot, as Paul Wellens’ men endured their fourth consecutive defeat against Warrington in Round 18.

The Red V are boosted by the potential returns of Matt Whitley and Tommy Makinson, however.

Who will come out on top in a must win game for both sides?

Hull KR v London Broncos (20.00) - Live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

The Robins are back on home soil on Friday after proving they can win on the road.

Willie Peters’ men return to their fortress that is Sewell Group Craven Park and will welcome London Broncos there for a second time this season.

A top two finish is in sight for high-flying Hull KR and a win against a struggling London side will certainly keep the pressure on those teams in the top six.

There are two changes to Hull KR's 21-man squad, with Niall Evalds and James Batchelor both returning from injuries and in contention to play against the Broncos. Tyrone May misses out this week, with Connor Barley also dropping out.

And there's just the one change to the London side who made the Round 18 trip to Leigh Leopards. This sees James Meadows drop out through injury, so in comes Jensen Monk.

Saturday 27 July

Salford Red Devils v Castleford Tigers (15.00) – Live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Salford and Castleford will renew their rivalry in Round 19, and it’s one a-piece this year in the league, having both beaten each other on their home territories.

The Red Devils find themselves in sixth spot and will want to stay there or climb even further if other results go their way this weekend.

The Tigers, on the other hand, are charging on and have hit their best form so far in 2024. Craig Lingard’s men are currently enjoying a three-game winning streak, and prior to this, had only lost to Hull KR and Wigan by less than one and two point(s) respectively.

The away side have beaten two top six sides in the last three rounds – will they overcome another top six opposition in Salford?

Tim Lafai and Sam Stone's return from injury is a huge boost for the Salford squad, with Loghan Lewis back in contention too. Their new signing, Jayden Nikorima, is also included.

There are two changes from the Castleford squad that took on the Catalans Dragons, with Samy Kibula and Liam Watts making way for Nixon Putt and Fletcher Rooney.

Catalans Dragons v Hull FC (19.00) – Live on Sky Sports and SuperLeague+

Round 19 ends with action in the south of France when Catalans take on Hull FC on Saturday evening.

The Dragons have failed to find consistency in 2024 and will be aiming to bounce back in front of their home crowd.

Sam Tomkins, following his shock announcement that he would come out of retirement for the remainder of the 2024 season, could also be set to feature for the Dragons this weekend.

Steve McNamara’s men are level on league points with both Saints and Salford, so cannot afford to lose out on the two points on offer.

But they will have to face the Black & Whites as their opposition, who have absolutely nothing to lose, and will be lifted by their memorable win against Wigan in Round 18.

Neither side should underestimate one another, and it's set to get heated…
