BWSL: Round 8 Preview

As we pass the halfway point of the 2025 Betfred Women’s Super League, two teams remain unbeaten and that’s Wigan Warriors and St Helens!

Here's how the league table is looking!

As we march on into Round 8, Saints will be looking to continue their unbeaten run when they welcome Leigh Leopards to the Totally Wicked Stadium on Saturday (K.O. 2.30pm).

The Red V will be high on confidence following their last-gasp victory over Leeds Rhinos last weekend - where Caitlin Casey scored against her former club to level things up in the dying moments of the match, and Faye Gaskin, coolly as ever, slotted over the match-winning goal.

There are no previous meetings between Saints and the Leopards…

There’s plenty of action on Sunday, and it’s top versus bottom as the relentless Wigan Warriors make the short trip to face Warrington Wolves at Victoria Park (K.O. 12pm).

Meanwhile, York Valkyrie and Barrow Raiders will meet for the first time since July 2024. Their game will take place at the LNER Community Stadium (K.O. 12pm), where the Valkyrie will be aiming to make it five league wins on the spin.

Lindsey Anfield's side have won all of their three previous encounters against the Raiders - and quite comfortably, too.

Finally, there’s a West Yorkshire Derby on the cards when Leeds Rhinos welcome Huddersfield Giants to AMT Headingley Stadium.

The sides have already met once in the 2025 Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup quarter-finals, with Leeds coming out on top in a 38-18 scoreline.

Last time out in the Women’s Super League, the Giants were heavily defeated 66-4 in their away fixture at Leeds. The time before that, however, the visitors managed to pull off a memorable 16-20 victory back in 2023.

Huddersfield have already proved that they can push the top sides on their day - for only a few weeks back did they almost cause a huge upset and overcome York Valkyrie.

That said, Lois Forsell's Rhinos will be reeling from their loss to St Helens in the previous round and are likely to be out for blood.
