BWSL: Round 6 Preview
6 hrs
It’s the penultimate week in the Betfred Women’s Super League’s regular season as teams have just two more chances to make a push for the top four before the competition splits into two halves.
Following the regular season, teams will split into the top and bottom four teams playing each other home and away in an extended play-off series.
Opening the weekend are Wigan Warriors who take on their biggest rivals St Helens for the first time in the league this season.
The pair met back in May when they faced off at the iconic Wembley Stadium in the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup Final.
Wigan Warriors proved too dominant in that match up leaving the Saints still looking for their first win against the side in 2026.
Also meeting this weekend are Leeds Rhinos who sit second in the table after making it four consecutive wins heading into Round 6.
The Rhinos take on Leigh Leopards at home as they hope to make it five wins from six heading into the final week of the regular season.
New to the squad in 2026, the Rhinos’ Georgia Elliston has nothing but praise for how her side have welcomed her to the team:
“I’m loving it, it’s been really good, Leeds have been so accommodating and I’ve been welcomed into the team with open arms so I’ve loved my time here so far”
“We’ve really stuck to our processes in the last four weeks so we really trust the process and I know if we perform how we can and how we train to then it’s going to be a good game.”
On her personal goals having headed overseas, Elliston said:
“I’m just aiming to be consistent for the team and to be a really good team player that’s what I pride myself in so I just want to prove I can be a reliable player on that field and be the best player for my teammates.”
Confident they’ve got a lot more success to come, Elliston added:
“We have so many good opportunities it’s just sticking to the processes and the training structure that we’ve had and I think we can get a lot of joy at the end of the season and when the season breaks up into the top for and bottom four.”
Closing out Saturday’s games are Featherstone Rovers and York Valkyrie.
The Rovers have had a tough start to the season and will be hoping they can prove they’ve got much more to give in these final two opportunities of the regular season.
The final game of the weekend sees Huddersfield Giants host Barrow Raiders on Sunday.
Sitting in fifth place, the Giants need a big push in these last two games to overcome fourth placed Valkyrie who they are level with on points and make it into the top half of the table when the competition splits.
