BWSL: Round 11 Round Up

Round 11 of the Betfred Women’s Super League came to a close over the weekend - and there were some BIG changes to the current standings as The Final Charge got underway...

A thundering 32-10 win for York Valkyrie saw them bring the Warriors’ undefeated run to an end and show they’ve still got plenty to give in the race for the League Leaders' Shield - and for retaining their champions status.

Four first half tries built a 22-0 lead at half time for the Valkyrie in the first ever Women’s Super League game to be played in the Northeast.

Another great start to the second half saw the Valkyrie continue their lead with a try from Eboni Partington. A second half try from Eva Hunter and conversion from Isabel Rowe saw Wigan attempt to claw their way back into the game, but continued force from the York defence left any chances for Wigan few and far between.

St Helens are now the only undefeated team in the league after beating Barrow Raiders on Saturday to take the top spot in the table.

In the milestone match for Saints’ number ten Chantelle Crowl, the Red V produced another dominant performance resulting in a 90-0 win.

It was a fast start for St Helens with Dani McGifford bagging her first try in just two minutes.

Mia Drescher made her debut on the hour mark as the latest Saints Women’s Academy product to develop with the club.

And after continued dominance from the Saints, the team continued to rack up a lead, with Crowl bringing it home with a final try on her milestone day to round off the win.

Then, Leeds Rhinos earned a hard-fought win over Leigh Leopards at the Leigh Sports Village.

Despite a huge blow early in the game as Liv Whitehead suffered an ankle injury, the Rhinos still managed to post the first points of the match with a try from winger Tally Bryer.

Lucy Murray went on to score her first try of the game, touching down under the posts to bring her total Rhinos career points to 100. Two more tries before half time led Leeds to take control of the game which they sustained to take a 10-40 win.

The final game of the weekend was between Huddersfield Giants and Warrington Wolves at Laund Hill where the Giants won 54-4 to precariously keep their hopes of making the Play-Offs alive.

With scores looking even tighter at the top of the table, what will Round 12 bring this weekend?
