BWSL: Round 13 Preview

The fight for the League Leaders’ Shield is ON as we enter Round 13 of the Betfred Women’s Super League!

This weekend's action starts with a high-stakes derby at the Totally Wicked Stadium, where St Helens host Wigan Warriors in a double header with the men’s teams - live on Sky Sports (KO 5:20pm).

Saints sit at the top of the league table and are yet to be defeated by any team in the regular season. But just one point behind them are Denis Betts’ Warriors who are also hunting down the silverware on offer.

And whoever wins tonight will win the League Leaders' Shield. Simple as that.

Will an experienced Saints go back-to-back, or do young guns Wigan have a chance of lifting the first Shield in their women's history?

If they draw, however, we'll have to wait until the Red V's Round 14 result which will determine the winner.

Their last league meeting ended in a tasty 22-22 draw - and another equally as fierce contest is expected in tonight's decider!

Then, fighting to stay in third are York Valkyrie.

On Sunday (7 September), Lindsey Anfield's York face Barrow Raiders at the Northern Competitions Stadium (KO 2pm).

The Valkyrie and the Raiders last met in Round 8 where the Valkyrie prevented their opponents from putting any points on the board in a 58-0 win.

First half tries from Savannah Andrade, Lisa Parker and Emma Kershaw led to a 16-0 lead at the break, before a strong second half from York ensured there was no way back for the Raiders. The Valkyrie scored soon after the restart and went on to assert their dominance, which included a hat-trick from Peace Lekuru and braces for Andrade and Kershaw.

Elsewhere, Huddersfield Giants host Leeds Rhinos in a West Yorkshire Derby (KO 2pm).

It's still possible for the Rhinos to overtake York if they win their last two matches and the Valkyrie lose their last two.

The Giants and Rhinos previously met in Round 8 where torrential rain at AMT Headingley made for a difficult match, but it was Leeds who walked away with a 54-12 victory.

Leigh Leopards versus Warrington Wolves' Round 13 fixture will not go ahead after the Wolves announced their decision to remove themselves from the Women’s Super League for the remainder of the season. Details can be found here.
