2025 Season Review: York Knights
2 hrs
This year’s York Knights team will go down in history.
A stellar season has seen the Knights collect two pieces of silverware in 2025, as well as reach their first ever Betfred Championship Grand Final in the modern era.
They may have fallen at the final hurdle, with Toulouse taking the crown on the final day, but this is a campaign that Mark Applegarth’s men should be proud of – and one which they won’t forget in a hurry.

Where to begin?
Perhaps their astonishing 20-game winning streak which started back in April. The Knights were unstoppable in both league and cup, going on to beat Featherstone Rovers at Wembley Stadium in the first tryless AB Sundecks 1895 Cup Final back in June.
The Knights were in dreamland, and their unbeaten run then saw then lift the League Leaders’ Shield in their final home game against Batley Bulldogs.
Congratulations, @YorkRLFC ?

Their highlights reel is certainly a long one – beating Bradford and Toulouse in blood and thunder battles stick out for sure, but points fests against other teams along the way have also shown York at their very best.

The North Yorkshire club also racked up an impressive total of 764 attacking points throughout the league season.
They may have fallen short in the Championship Grand Final, but a huge turnout on home soil at LNER Community Stadium showcases positive and promising signs for the club’s future.
Skipper and provider Liam Harris has been instrumental – ending 2025 as the league’s top points scorer and has formed a wonderful partnership with Ata Hingano in the halves.

Ben Jones-Bishop’s try-scoring form has been terrific, while Toa Mata’afa has been a magnificent mid-season signing for the Knights.
Paul McShane brought his vital experience to the team – and will be crucial for them next season as they join the big boys at the top.
Signings are well underway…and they are a deserving addition to the 2026 Betfred Super League, and we look forward to seeing what next year brings.
