2026 Season Preview: Toulouse Olympique
3 hrs
Toulouse are back in Super League for the first time for 2022 – and will want to show that they aren’t just here to make up the numbers this time round.
Their previous Super League stint lasted just one year, before being relegated to the second tier.
Since then, the French side have thrived in the Betfred Championship, establishing themselves as a top side, and one with an exceptionally impressive home record.
They hadn't had much luck where the Championship Grand Final was concerned though – falling frustratingly short in 2023 and 2024.
But 2025 was to be third time lucky, as Toulouse went on to be crowned Betfred Championship champions, following a hard-fought victory over York Knights on the road.

So, let’s not underestimate what the Olympique can do. Sylvain Houles’ side surprised most in their last Super League outing – including a memorable Magic Weekend upset against Wakefield Trinity in Newcastle.

The French side also overcame the champions of that year, St Helens, as well as Grand Final runners-up, Leeds Rhinos, in their regular season matches.
That said, they did struggle overall and won just five of their 27 matches.
The aim for 2026 is to try and be consistently competitive. Realistically, it’s unlikely they will repeat what the likes of Wakefield and Leigh Leopards have done in the past upon their return to Super League, but Toulouse should most certainly enjoy the journey ahead.
And as they embark on their return to the big time, Toulouse have a lot of players in their squad who have competed at the top before.
Toulouse and Houles know exactly what to expect in the top flight, but we’ll have to wait and see how they fare in 2026.

Ins & Outs:
Ins: AJ Wallace (Hull KR), Brendan Hands (Parramatta Eels), Luke Polselli (London Broncos), Mathieu Pons (Oldham), Tyler Dupree (Wigan – season-long loan), Henry O'Kane (South Sydney Rabbitohs), Cesar Rouge (Catalans)
Outs: Greg Richards, Dominic Peyroux, Radean Robinson
Who are the ones to watch?
It’s no secret that Toulouse have re-signed the majority of their 2025 Championship Grand Final-winning squad, highlighting the belief and faith the club has in its current players.
That said, Houles has also made a couple of interesting additions.
Club captain Anthony Marion really is the club’s talisman, and this season will be his tenth in Toulouse colours as he prepares to don the number 13 shirt once more.

Olly Ashall-Bott will be relishing another shot at Super League. The speedster scored 23 tries last year, finishing third in the overall Championship top try scorer rankings.
Powerhouse Tyler Dupree will also be a valuable asset to the Olympique in 2026. He joins from former champions Wigan Warriors on a season-long loan, as the French side look to attack the Super League. It’s a move that will certainly compliment both parties.
Propsering playmaker Cesar Rouge is the club's latest addition. He swaps Perpignan for Toulouse in hope of regular game time and his ability to be versatile should help him in nailing down a starting spot.

And let’s not forget Reubenn Rennie and Paul Ulberg who have the ability the cause utter chaos on the left edge. Can they continue their long-standing connection?
Who is the next generation?
AJ Wallace will be looking to continue his fine form with the French side. Wallace joined Toulouse towards the back of the 2025 on loan, before securing a permanent deal in the south of France.
The 22-year old is yet to make his first appearance in Super League, but if he patiently bides his time this year, then the opportunity will inevitably arise.
What are the defining dates?
Toulouse's three clashes with fellow French side Catalans Dragons are highly anticipated. They will meet with their French counterparts for the first time in April, making the trip to Perpignan.
Then, a French Magic is on the cards, before Toulouse host the Dragons in late July. But who will claim bragging rights?

Also in April, Houles' men will welcome the champions Hull KR to Stade Ernest Wallon, which will be the biggest test of all.
Ultimately, the key will be to pick up points when and where they can, with their focus on the other newly promoted sides, as well as targeting the fixtures against teams that finished near the bottom of the pile last year.
What is the 2026 squad list?
