It Hit Different in Round 1.
From shock results and terrific tries, to key moments, plays and standout contributions, the opening round of the 2026 Betfred Super League had it all.
York Knights’ memorable win kicked things off – the first time a York club had defeated Hull KR since the year of 1999.
The Knights stepped up to Super League in spectacular fashion and never once looked out of place as they hosted the current champions Hull KR.
Mark Applegarth’s men almost matched the treble winners with the amount of possession (47% to 53%) and spent significantly less time in their opposition’s 20m, still managing to pull off a fantastic win.
In terms of attacking, the newly promoted made almost as many runs and metres as the Robins (174 to 178) and (1387 to 1600).
Uncharacteristically, the Robins made eleven errors – five more than the Knights which would eventually prove costly.
Sam Wood starred for the hosts with two tries, with Jai Whitbread also at the double for the visitors.
Scott Galeano came up with the game-breaking score on his Super League debut and was one of York’s highest metre makers on Thursday with 143.
Toa Mata’afa and Jack Martin made 144 and 141 in first and third place for the Knights.
Liam Harris was a key orchestrator, producing ten kicks in the field of play, two more than former Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel Mikey Lewis.
Did you also know that Ata Hingano’s drop goal was the first ever of his career? A special night all round for York Knights!

‘Forbes Ferrari’ Charlie Staines hit the ground running for Catalans Dragons on Friday, with a jaw-dropping 307 metres! Yes, you read that correctly!
307 metres in 30 runs meant Staines blew the Giants off the park and he even got on the scoresheet to round off an exceptional Round 1 performance, both individually and as a collective.

The Dragons also dominated all other areas, with new recruit Toby Sexton creating sixteen kicks in play and converting five from five.
Warrington Wolves made it eight wins in a row in all competitions against rivals St Helens, and the stats were more than telling.
One of the standouts includes young Cai Taylor-Wray’s – and the 19-year-old full-back has plenty of pace to burn.
235 metres and a try of the week contender put Taylor-Wray in the spotlight this weekend – is this the start of what’s to come? If so, it’s an exciting time for everyone involved at the Wolves.
Especially when he hit 20mph in the act of scoring his try the other night…
Taking nothing away from Saints in the second half, however, as despite being on the losing side, seven of their players surpassed 100 metres.
They may not have had the fluency, but they certainly had the speed.
Robbie Mulhern and Jarrod O’Connor defended impeccably for their teams in Leigh and Leeds’ clash, with 45 and 51 tackles respectively.
Bailey Hodgson made the most carries of any player on the pitch with 29, whilst Lachlan Lam started as he meant to go on with his playmaking duties, and contributed one try and one try assist.
Bradford Bulls impressed in their return to the big time – almost matching Hull FC in every department.
Possession was evenly split, but some Will Pryce magic proved to be the difference.
The Pryce was certainly right on Saturday as he topped the charts with runs (20) and metres (181), as well as two try assists and the match-winning drop goal minutes from time.

The Bulls’ Joe Mellor is the joint top tackler of the entire round (51 on par with O’Connor), with Waqa Blake topping the Round 1 charts with the most amount of offloads (5).
Over in Wakefield, Toulouse Olympique caused a huge upset – and Olly Ashall-Bott was their star man.
He racked up ten tackles busts – the most of any players across Super League in Round 1 (along with Esan Marsters) and scored two crucial tries at the side of either half to secure the Olympique’s first win.

Toulouse also ran a total of 141 metres more than last year’s top six Trinity!
Cesar Rouge wasn’t so lucky with the boot though – three of his attempted goals bounced off the post! A Super League first?
Finally, former champions Wigan Warriors showed their class on Sunday.
Brad O’Neill in particular stood out with 41 tackles, along with Patrick Mago who was flourished in attack with 137 metres in 11 runs, including 40 kick return metres!
The powerhouse also made five tackle busts against the Tigers and a danger for the entire duration he took to the field.
Jai Field was at his brilliant best with 196 metres, followed by eight other Wiganers who ran over the 100 metre mark. This included Field's other half Bevan French (127), two try scorer Zach Eckersley (153), as well as Oliver Partington (107), who had a solid game back in Warriors colours.
For the Tigers, their new signing Mikaele Ravalawa showed extremely promising signs with 157 metres and a spirited consolation try.
