Round 4 Preview

Round 4 of the Betfred Super League has arrived!

There have been plenty of twists and turns with the league table throwing it back as the Big Four occupy 1st-4th places in the table.

Would anyone have expected the current champions, Hull KR, to be sitting bottom of the pile?

Meanwhile, the three newly promoted clubs have shown they belong in the big time…

Thursday 5 March

Wakefield Trinity v Hull FC (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

Thursday’s tie is one between two teams looking to get back on track. Wakefield head home and will host Hull FC, live exclusively on Sky Sports.

Both Wakefield and Hull are searching for their second win of the season but have had their fair share of injuries and struggles to contend with in the opening rounds.

Last year, the Black & Whites completed the double over Trinity (16-10 in Round 18 and 12-16 in Round 5). Despite this, Hull missed out on the top six, and instead, Trinity crept in.

It appears both teams are yet to get out of second gear, but they will need to do so quickly if they are to be genuine Play-Off contenders in 2026.

Daryl Powell has been able to welcome back Mason Lino into Wakefield’s squad following his slight hamstring injury which kept him out of the side for the games against Huddersfield and Warrington. Tray Lolesio also comes back into the 21.

One of Trinity’s key men Tyson Smoothy is ruled out following a failed HIA against Warrington on Saturday, with Jordan Williams also dropping out.

For Hull FC, John Cartwright makes three changes ahead of Thursday’s clash. Harvey Barron (ankle) and Jed Cartwright (hamstring) are unavailable after picking up injuries against the Knights, with both players awaiting scan results to determine the extent of the issues.

Liam Knight also drops out of the squad having been released from the remainder of his contract over the weekend.

Ligi Sao returns from suspension, while James Bell is included for the first time this season after recovering from a knee issue sustained in pre-season. Logan Moy also comes into the squad.

Friday 6 March

Leigh Leopards v Catalans Dragons (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

Both Leigh and Catalans produced disappointing performances in Round 3, so will be desperate to improve on Friday Night in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Their head coaches will also be expecting an immediate response.

The sides met three times last year with the Leopards coming away with a clean sweep of victories.

Their Magic Weekend encounter back in May ended in a 24-26 thriller, but is there going to be another close encounter on the cards?

Guillermo Aispuro-Bichet, Chris Satae, Léo Darrélatour and Lenny Marc replace captain Ben Garcia, Alexis Lis, Matty Russell and Josh Simm in the Dragons squad.

York Knights v Warrington Wolves (20.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

Warrington, alongside Wigan are the only team to have a 100% record in 2026.

The Wolves, however, can’t afford to underestimate York Knights, with Mark Applegarth’s men currently two wins from three, who have home advantage in Round 4.

The Knights pushed both Hull teams all the way in Rounds 1 and 3, closing out the games with a dramatic drop goal on both occasions.

They certainly know how to hold their nerve. But similarly, Sam Burgess’ Wolves are feeling upbeat, having won their first two matches.

There’s just one change to York’s squad this week - Kieran Buchanan replaces Myles Harrison.

Warrington’s winning squad remains unchanged for their first away trip of the 2026 season.

Saturday 7 March

St Helens v Bradford Bulls (17.30) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

Who’s feeling nostalgic? Two Super League heavyweights St Helens and Bradford reunite for the first time since 2014 – and their match-ups are renowned for producing a classic.

It is Saints who have won their last five home meetings with the Bulls. Bradford haven’t come home winners from St Helens since April 2009.

In Super League history, St Helens have won 29 of their meetings, whereas Bradford have won 21. This includes numerous Play-Offs and Grand Finals, highlighting a fierce and long-standing rivalry between the two.

They currently occupy 3rd and 4th in the table – up at the top just like old times…

Who will get their third win of the campaign and continue to climb the league ladder?

The Saints make two changes to their team that triumphed in Perpignan. Alex Walmsley is out for around six weeks due to a foot injury, and Jake Burns is the other Saint to step out of the squad selection.

The Red V are boosted by the return of centre Mark Percival and forward Jake Wingfield. Both have been working hard in their rehabilitation following injuries, and it is a welcome sight to see them back in contention.

The Bulls' side remains unchanged.

Toulouse Olympique v Wigan Warriors (17.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

Will Wigan Warriors continue their unbeaten run in the south of France?

They will face Toulouse for a fourth time in history, where they will be looking to make it a fourth win over the French side.

Wigan will have to do it without their star full-back Jai Field though, who has been ruled out for up to six weeks with appendicitis.

Sunday 8 March

Huddersfield Giants v Hull KR (15.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

The current bottom two will go head-to-head on Sunday as the Giants host the champions.

Neither side have found their first win of the 2026 season, so their Round 4 fixture arguably has extra importance here.

Hull KR were comfortable winners in both of their meetings last year (34-0 and 4-50).

Huddersfield will also need to watch out this weekend, as the Robins will be out for blood following their heavy Las Vegas loss.

After meeting in Round 4 of Super League, they will then face each other in Round 4 of the Betfred Challenge Cup next Saturday, meaning this upcoming fixture gives both teams the opportunity to test each other out.

Leeds Rhinos v Castleford Tigers (15.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

It's double the action on Sunday, and a West Yorkshire Derby rounds off week four!

The Rhinos are back at AMT Headingley and should receive a warm welcome after they starred in Las Vegas last weekend.

Castleford could be in trouble if Leeds play anything like they did out in Vegas, but come into this contest on the back of a big win themselves.

Leeds have won their last four home meetings with Castleford – will they be chief entertainers again in Round 4?

Ryan Hall has scored tries in his last four games against the Tigers – will Super League’s top try scorer add more to his tally?

Harry Newman has also scored tries in the Rhinos' last three games against Castleford.
