Wigan Warriors edged a thrilling 23–22 victory over York Knights at the Brick Community Stadium on Thursday Night, maintaining their 100% winning start to the 2026 Betfred Super League season.
An impressive York stunned the home side early, racing into a 14–0 lead through tries from David Nofoaluma and Paul Vaughan, as well as a penalty from Danny Richardson.
But Wigan responded strongly before half-time with a Liam Marshall double and gradually took charge in the second half as young Noah Hodkinson touched down on his debut.
Another Richardson penalty again levelled the scores in what was a truly physical Round 5 opener, but Adam Keighran’s try and a Harry Smith drop-goal proved to be the difference.
Ata Hingano’s late effort set up a tense finish however, but the Warriors held on by a single point.

On Friday, St Helens kept up their strong start in Super League with a dominant win in the south of France.
They travelled to face Toulouse Olympique and took control early in the first half.
Agnatius Paasi and David Klemmer crossed for the Red V either side of Lewis Murphy's double, with Deon Cross' score putting the visitors 28-0 up at half-time.
The French side eventually got off the mark through Benjamin Laguerre's try and further scores from Luke Polselli and Tyler Dupree.
But Saints had the final say as Jackson Hastings kicked a late penalty, ensuring his side would return home with the two points (16-30).

Wakefield Trinity claimed their third win of the season over Leigh Leopards following a feisty yet at times scrappy affair at the DIY Kitchens Stadium (18-14).
Both sides scored three tries a piece, but goal-kicking became deciding factor on the night, as Max Jowitt produced a perfect record with the boot.
Jazz Tevaga scored his first Super League try, before Jayden Myers and Oli Pratt got their names on the scoresheet – with Myers’ try one of the most unlikeliest following Caius Faatili’s high bomb and Tyson Smoothy’s chip through prior.
The try scorers for Leigh were Gareth O'Brien, Josh Charnley and Jacob Alick-Wiencke, but it wasn’t enough as the Leopards came away empty-handed in Round 5.

An epic encounter unfolded when Bradford Bulls welcomed Huddersfield Giants under the bright lights of Bartercard Odsal.
A Jayden Nikorima masterclass helped inspired the Bulls to victory with his two tries and try assist (26-14), handing the Giants a fifth straight defeat.

The unbeaten Warrington Wolves thrashed Castleford Tigers on Saturday afternoon, posting 72 points on their opponents – their highest ever win over them.
The Wolves ran riot at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, outplaying the Tigers in every department.
Matty Ashton bagged a hat-trick in his comeback from injury, whilst Kelepi Tanginoa scored four fantastic tries.
The Wolves will head into Birthday Round in high spirits, whilst it’s back to the drawing board urgently for Ryan Carr’s Castleford (72-6).

There was drama in Perpignan’s showdown as Catalans Dragons beat the current champions Hull KR at the death.
The Dragons came out firing and flew into a 20-6 lead courtesy of two tries from Zac Lipowicz and one by Romain Navarrete.
Despite an under performance, the Robins clawed their way back into it the game and looked to snatch victory from underneath Joel Tomkins’ men as tries from Joe Burgess and Tom Amone and Mikey Lewis' penalty levelled the scores.
But it was to be a moment to remember for 19-year-old Lenny Marc, who raced away for the match-winning try in front of a jubliant home crowd with just seconds remaining on the clock (26-20).

Sunday’s scintillating contest between Hull FC and Leeds Rhinos closed out Round 5, as a spirited Black & Whites edged out their opponents, 24-16.
Tries from Jake Arthur, Ligi Sao and Davy Litten, as well as six kicks from former Leeds man Zak Hardaker, saw the hosts come away with the two points.
Two terrific team tries created via kicks would nudge the Rhinos into a narrow half-time lead, but it to be short-lived on Sunday afternoon, as John Cartwright's Hull rallied.
