The Community Integrated Care Learning Disability Super League is a pioneering project giving opportunities to people who have learning disabilities and autism to play at major Betfred Super League events, following in the footsteps of their Super League idols. With more than 400 registered players across 19 clubs, the massive growth in participation highlights the clear need for sporting opportunities in the Learning Disability community.

Seven years on from the Learning Disability Super League’s Major Events debut in Liverpool for the 2019 Anfield Magic WKND, we return to where it all began but this time over in the Blue side of the City. Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium will become the fourth stadia to host LDSL, having previously showcased this inspired version of Rugby League at Anfield, Elland Road, and St James Park. Since its inaugural showcase participation has doubled, growing from 10 to 19 clubs represented, many of whom now fielding multiple teams. LDSL has become a fan favourite element of the Magic WKND schedule, and with the support of Sky Sports has also created opportunities in volunteering, including delivering the Player of the Match award, and interviewing the winning players live within the broadcast.

The Learning Disability Super League has been named as the Best Community Scheme in world sport at the Sports Business Awards and the Best Innovation in the care sector at the Great British Care Awards – generating more than £1.25m of social impact for its communities every year. This major showcase comes as rugby league’s Social Care Partner, Community Integrated Care, celebrates its decade of impact with the game.

You can watch and cheer them on from the sidelines at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July, at half time of Game 2 on both days.

John Hughes, Director of Partnerships and Communities at Community Integrated Care, said: “As Community Integrated Care celebrates its decade of impact with Rugby League, it is fitting that our hallmark innovation with the sport – the Learning Disability Super League – is showcased on such an incredible stage. Magic Weekend represents for participants a genuine lifetime highlight – making memories, sharing their talents, and playing for the clubs they love at one of rugby league’s greatest events. We commend our partners at the RL Commercial and the RFL for their amazing efforts in making this experience.

"We wish every player the happiest of times, playing at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and thank every family member, coach, volunteer and Foundation who is supporting someone to enjoy this magnificent moment.”

Katarina Graham, Senior Marketing Manager at Super League, added: “It’s always our privilege to include LDSL in the Magic WKND event schedule, and it’s spectacular growth is a testament to the hard work of Community Integrated Care and our Rugby League foundations, creating a truly inclusive version of our great sport.

"Having had the honour of being there for the first Magic WKND showcase back in 2019, it’s exciting to see it back in Liverpool in what feels like a full circle moment when celebrating our 10 year relationship with the social care charity."
