Willie Peters named Betfred Coach of the Month for May

Willie Peters has been named as the Betfred Super League Coach of the Month for May after overseeing a perfect month in the league with three wins from three games moving the Robins into the top four.

Voting covers Rounds 10, 11 and 12 with KR’s May kicking off with a dominant 50-6 victory over Castleford Tigers at Sewell Group Craven Park. A hat-trick for Tom Davies alongside a brace for Karl Lawton provided five of the hosts’ nine tries with Joe Burgess, Mikey Lewis, Dean Hadley and Tom Amone also on the scoresheet.

Round 11 saw Hull KR survive a late Leigh Leopards fightback to make it two from two in in May. Peters’ side ran into a 6-20 lead at the break thanks to scores by Arthur Mourgue, Tom Davies and Peta Hiku. Ultimately, Rhyse Martin’s four successful goals proved to be the difference in their 16-20 win.

The Robins rounded off a perfect month with a comfortable victory over a youthful Wigan Warriors side, a week prior to the Betfred Challenge Cup Final. Mikey Lewis scored a hat-trick inside the first 17 minutes before eight other KR players went over – Sam Luckley, Jack Broadbent, Noah Booth, Dean Hadley, Rhyse Martin, Jai Whitbread, Jez Litten and Tom Davies were all on the scoresheet.

Hull KR sit in fourth spot after 12 rounds, trailing league leaders’ Leeds Rhinos by two points, although the Robins have played one game less than their counterparts with their Round 2 fixture against Warrington Wolves recently being rearranged for Tuesday 18 August.
