Magic WKND Day One Round Up

The 2026 Magic WKND kicked off in style as York Knights secured a memorable 24-36 win at their first ever Magic.

And the try celebrations were in full swing, with Betfred’s £180 up for grabs to raise money for MND Association.

An entertaining encounter against Huddersfield Giants unfolded in Game 1 as the Knights ran in seven tries at the Hill Dickinson Stadium to record back-to-back victories.

Player of the Match Cody Hunter and Jon Bennison crossed for a brace each whilst David Nofoaluma, Nikau Williams and Denive Balmforth also scored tries.

The Giants did respond with tries from Chris Patolo, Zane Dunford, Oliver Russell and George Flanagan, but an extremely strong start from the Knights in the second half meant that the game got away from Jim Lenihan's men in the end.

The highly anticipated Hull Derby made its return to Magic WKND as Hull KR and Hull FC went to battle.

Two late tries from the Robins helped them to overcome their cross-city rivals, as a close contest unfolded in Liverpool.

Magic Mikey Lewis touched down for the game's opening try, before Rhyse Martin extended the champions' advantage.

Hull did hit back through Jake Arthur and Tom Briscoe, before levelling the scores at 12-12 through a successful Zak Hardaker penalty.

Tensions were rising in the closing stages, but Tyrone May and Jai Whitbread saw their side home, and Martin sealed it with a penalty goal of his own as the East side of Hull retained bragging rights (26-12).

Leigh Leopards ran riot in Game 3 against Warrington Wolves with tries from Tesi Niu, David Armstrong, Edwin Ipape and Umyla Hanley (24-6).

Marc Sneyd provided the only response for an injury-hit Wire, as Leigh kept up their good run form.

Finally, history was made as Toulouse Olympique faced Catalans Dragons in Castres, where Toulouse racked up their biggest win of the year - 60-18.

The all French-Magic WKND took place in Castres, as Sylvain Houles' were dominant at Stade Pierre-Fabre, claiming their fifth win of the season and producing a statement win.
