Man of Steel: Round 8 Picks

Blake Austin picked up another three points as himself and his team mate, Stefan Ratchford, close the gap on James Roby in the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel standings.

A member of the panel will watch each Betfred Super League game in 2019 and award points to the three outstanding players: 3 points for their chosen stand-out performer, two points for the runner-up, and 1-point for their third ranked player.

The scores will be made public every week, until Round 22 in mid-July. After that, the poll will be hidden until the Awards Ceremony in October.

Leeds vs Castleford (Brad Dwyer)

It’s Brad Dwyer’s first Man of Steel points and what a way to win not only those points, but two crucial points for Leeds Rhinos against Castleford Tigers. The game was decided in Golden Point and the ball found its way into the hands of Dwyer who scored a 40 metre drop goal.

Hull FC vs Warrington (Blake Austin)

Blake Austin stole the show in Warrington Wolves’ emphatic victory at the KCOM Stadium, he scored four tries, made 180 metres and a drop goal, whilst selling an endless number of dummies which led to tries or big metres.

St Helens vs Hull KR (Luke Thompson)

Luke Thompson epitomises and embodies everything a coach wants from a front-row, his great footwork, evasive skills and direct running lifted Saints in the second-half. Thompson scored a try, made 194 metres and 25 tackles.

Wigan Warriors vs Catalans Dragons (Joe Burgess)

In only his second game back from a long-term injury Joe Burgess picked up his first Man of Steel points. He scored 3 tries and made 166 metres as Wigan Warriors beat Catalans Dragons 42-0.

London Broncos vs Huddersfield Giants (Lee Gaskell)
