Women
Super Four and Shield: Round 3 Preview
6 hrs
Wigan Warriors will have home advantage when they welcome St Helens this weekend, as the infamous derby returns to the Betfred Women’s Super League on Saturday (22 August, KO 2pm), and The Final Charge carries on...
The two sides met just two weeks ago in the opening round of the Super Four competition, where defending champions Wigan produced a dominant display.
Denis Bett’s side crossed for nine tries, with Ellise Derbyshire and Eva Hunter both grabbing braces.
St Helens breached the Cherry and Whites’ defence only once, through Luci McColm on the stroke of half-time, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly extinguished after the restart when Molly Jones got Wigan moving again.
The result secured a convincing 44-6 victory for the Warriors, who will be hoping to produce another strong performance on home soil this weekend and continue their unbeaten run.
Saints, however, will be looking to strengthen their position in third, with York Valkyrie just two points behind them. A semi-final spot is at stake!
The second Super Four fixture sees the Valkyrie host Leeds Rhinos on Sunday (23 August, KO 12pm).
The sides also met two weeks ago, with Leeds producing an impressive display in front of a home crowd to carry their winning momentum into the next stage of the competition.
Four tries from Ruby Enright put the Rhinos firmly in control, as the hosts capitalised on every Valkyrie error. York responded through Megan Pakulis and Emma Kershaw, but Leeds’ attacking threat remained too much to handle.
An 80-metre solo effort from Ebony Stead early in the second half further extended the Rhinos’ advantage, as they secured a convincing 38-16 victory.
This weekend, second-placed Leeds will be hoping to replicate that performance on the road.
In the Shield Competition, Barrow Raiders take on Leigh Leopards at Speed Competitions Stadium on Sunday (KO 12pm).
The sides last met in Round 5 in a closely fought contest. The Raiders struck first through Zara Clough and Sam Norman, but Leigh quickly hit back as Toryn Blackwood and Isabelle Malyon brought the scores level.
As half-time approached, Vanessa Temple crossed for her first try before adding a second shortly after the restart.
With the conversion missed, Leigh needed just one converted try to draw level, and Blackwood provided it 10 minutes into the second half.
The Leopards then held firm defensively for the remaining 30 minutes to secure victory on home soil.
Can the Raiders claim their first victory of the 2026 season?
Elsewhere, an in-form Huddersfield Giants welcome Featherstone Rovers to Laund Hill on Sunday (KO 2pm).
The two sides also faced off in Round 5, when the Giants claimed an emphatic victory.
Braces from Madison Clegg and Tegan Sant, alongside Amelia Brown’s first try of the afternoon, saw Huddersfield race into a 22-0 lead after just 20 minutes.
Dani Waters crossed eight minutes later to register Rovers’ only points of the afternoon, but Featherstone were unable to mount a comeback.
Clegg and Brown both completed their hat-tricks in the second half as the Giants continued to dominate and secured a comprehensive victory.
