Hull FC complete statement signing of Daly Cherry-Evans for 2027

Hull FC have announced the signing of Rugby League superstar Daly Cherry-Evans for the 2027 Betfred Super League season - one of the most significant signings in the club’s history.

In a major statement of ambition from the Black & Whites, the legendary Australian half-back will make the move to East Yorkshire following the completion of the 2026 NRL season with Sydney Roosters, signing a one-year contract at the MKM Stadium.

The arrival of Cherry-Evans represents not only a landmark moment for Hull FC, but also for the British game as one of the highest-profile moves to Super League in recent years.

One of the outstanding playmakers of his generation, Cherry-Evans has enjoyed an extraordinary career at the very highest level of Rugby League, both domestically in the NRL, and on the representative and international stage with Queensland and Australia, achieving a multitude of club, representative, and personal honours throughout his career.

After making his NRL debut for Manly Warringah Sea Eagles in 2011, he helped guide the club to the NRL Premiership in his debut season, and went on to become one of the most influential players in Manly's history as their all-time highest appearance maker and as captain for nine years.

He then made the short trip over Port Jackson Bay to the Eastern Suburbs joining Sydney Roosters for the 2026 campaign for his final swansong ‘down under’, with the Rooster currently occupy top spot in the competition following their dramatic victory over the Penrith Panthers earlier today, including a brace of tries from ‘DCE’ himself.

A hugely respected leader and one of the sport’s elite half-backs over the past decade-and-a-half, Cherry-Evans joined an illustrious list of Maroons stars including the likes of Billy Slater, Cameron Smith, Darren Lockyer and Mal Meninga when he became Queensland’s State of Origin captain in 2019, leading them to four series victories as skipper.

On the international scene, Cherry-Evans is a two-time World Cup winner in 2013 and 2022 with the Kangaroos, and also added a World Cup 9s winners medal to his collection in 2019 with over 20 international caps under his belt in total.

A true-record breaker in the NRL too, no other half-back has played in the competition more than Cherry-Evans, while also holding the record for the most drop-goals and for the most tries as a half.

With over 400 senior appearances under his belt, his experience, leadership, game management and competitive qualities have made him one of the most recognisable and respected figures in world Rugby League. And in 2027, he will bring those qualities to Hull FC.

The signing is another significant step in the club's long-term ambition to restore Hull FC to the very top of the domestic game, and establish the MKM Stadium as one of the major destinations in British Rugby League.

“When a player of Daly's stature decides that he wants to come to Super League and, specifically, wants to play for Hull FC, I think it says a great deal about where this club is heading.

“This is bigger than simply signing an outstanding half-back. We are bringing one of the most respected leaders in the sport of Rugby League into our organisation and somebody who has spent his entire career operating at the very highest level.

“His influence on our playing group, our younger players and the standards we are trying to create throughout Hull FC will be enormous.

“We have been very clear about our ambition for this club. We want Hull FC competing for the biggest honours in the game, we want world-class players representing this club and we want our supporters to be excited about what we are building. The signing of Daly is a very significant part of that journey.

“I also think this is a tremendous signing for the Super League. Attracting one of the biggest names in the NRL to England creates interest well beyond Hull and demonstrates that this competition can still attract genuinely world-class players.

Cherry-Evans' signing provides Hull FC with one of the most experienced and accomplished organising half-backs in world Rugby League and adds further leadership to a squad being constructed with the intention of challenging at the top end of Super League.

His move to England will also generate considerable interest in Australia and across the international game, further increasing the profile of Hull FC and the Betfred Super League.

For Hull FC, however, the significance is particularly clear - one of Rugby League's great traditional clubs has secured one of the outstanding players and leaders of his generation.

Daly Cherry-Evans will be a Hull FC player in 2027.
