Burgess Extends Wolves Contract

The Warrington Wolves have confirmed that Head Coach Sam Burgess has signed a new two-year contract extension.

A legendary figure on both sides of the rugby league world, Burgess’ maiden Head Coach role has seen the Wire compete in three major finals since his arrival in 2024.

His firm belief in youth development has been evident throughout his tenure. From handing Arron Lindop his debut in his first game in charge to overseeing a club-record 12 home-grown players featuring against Toulouse Olympique in September, he has consistently championed the club’s pathway.

He has recorded 63 wins in his 99 games in charge across all competitions. In 2026, Burgess’ side also equalled the club record for home victories in a season, with 15 wins at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.

During his illustrious playing career, the former England captain led the South Sydney Rabbitohs to the 2014 NRL title, being awarded the Clive Churchill Medal despite suffering a broken cheekbone just one minute into the game.

He has represented England and Great Britain on 26 occasions and captained the national team to the World Cup Final in 2017.

On extending his time in charge to five years, Burgess has said: “It’s a real honour to extend my time at the Wire, and I’m excited to continue leading this club forwards.’

“I love what we’re doing and believe we’re not far away from achieving what we are all chasing.

“A big thank you to Simon [Moran], Stuart [Middleton] and Karl [Fitzpatrick] for their trust, and, of course, to the supporters for their backing of me and the team.

“My family and I are loving life in Warrington, and we look forward to the next couple of years here.”

Director of Rugby, Gary Chambers added: “Sam is a vital part of what this club is building. His trust and passion for youth development have allowed some of our most talented pathway products to thrive in a first-grade environment.

“To reach three major finals in three years shows how close we are to achieving what we all want.

“We are delighted he is committed to the ongoing project and look forward to continuing what we’ve started in the next few years.”Everyone at the club is delighted that Sam is continuing his journey with us and looks forward to seeing what the next chapter holds."
