David Fifita: Brother's Shadow

"From pretty much living in my brother's shadow to now making a name for yourself is pretty good."

It's been a spectacular start to the week for David Fifita; he's signed a new contract at Wakefield Trinity, he's top of the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel standings and his side are in the top five of Super League.

Fifita leads the Man of Steel standings ahead of Blake Austin and James Roby after picking up his fourth 3-point game of the season awarded by one of the 21-panellists of former Rugby League stars.

Fifita admitted that it was an honour to be recognised by these legends as well as stepping out of his brother's (Andrew Fifita) shadow.

"From pretty much living in my brother's shadow to now making a name for yourself is pretty good.

"It's good to get recognition from people outside of Wakefield, all the boys tell me in training I'm doing well but to be recognised from legends outside of Wakefield - that's special," said Fifita.

Wakefield have had a tough start to the season losing two of there key performers to injury, Tom Johnstone and Bill Tupou,  however, without the two, Wakefield are in fourth place and face their rivals Castleford Tigers on Thursday - both teams are on 12 points.

"It's sad seeing Tom go, I always write AJ (Air Johnstone) on my strap - that's on there for him.

"Losing Bill for twelve weeks is a massive loss too, he get's us 200 metres a game.

"I wouldn't say there's more pressure on us, but it's a chance for us to build character and for some of the other boys have stepped up.

"And I've had a couple of runs, I know the fans love seeing them and seeing me throw a couple of blokes but the others are doing amazing - Reece Lyne and Joe Arundel are on fire." Fifita added.

Fifita admitted the assisted try above was a fluke...

"That's a fluke, there was 15 seconds left before half-time and I just wanted the ref to call half-time, then all of a sudden I got the ball and thought I'll just keep running and go to the locker rooms if they tackle me but my run worked and it was lucky Max was there to turn on the speed," admitted Fifita.

Watch Fifita in action on Thursday night live on Sky Sports from 7PM (KO 7:45PM).
