Man of Steel: Round 13 picks

29 Apr 2019

It was a week for halves in round 13.

A member of the panel will watch each Betfred Super League game in 2019 and award points to the three outstanding players: 3 points for their chosen stand-out performer, two points for the runner-up, and 1-point for their third ranked player.

The scores will be made public every week, until Round 22 in mid-July. After that, the poll will be hidden until the Awards Ceremony in October.

Wigan Warriors v Castleford Tigers (Sam Powell)

Sam Powell returned to the Wigan side in the perfect fashion, scoring the winning try in a gritty 6-4 victory over Cas. Powell’s 54thminute effort from dummy half was the only try of the game. The Wigan number 9 also made a staggering 52 tackles, bettered only by Willie Isa and Paul McShane.

London Broncos v Salford Red Devils (Jackson Hastings)

Jackson Hastings was once again the focal point for the Devils as they left the capital with two points. Hastings made over 100 metres, three clean breaks, one assist and scored one himself. The half was also solid in defence, completing 17 tackles.

Hull FC v Wakefield Trinity (Albert Kelly)

Albert Kelly provided the spark as FC moved up to third in the table with a 30-14 win over Wakefield. Kelly made six tackle busts, two clean breaks and set up two tries for the black and white army. The half also scored one of his own with some individual class, breaking through the Wakefield line before cutting back inside to go over under the sticks.

Leeds Rhinos v Hull KR (Richie Myler)

Richie Myler was commanding in the halves as the Rhinos held-on to beat Hull KR 28-24. Myler and his partner Tui Lolohea worked well together to provide the outside backs with plenty of chances, and Myler topped off his performance with an impressive defensive display.

St Helens v Catalans Dragons (Danny Richardson)

Richardson picked up his first Man of Steel points of the season in the victory over Catalans. Danny created plenty of chances for a young Saints side and applied pressure to the Dragons with his pinpoint kicking display. The young half also chipped in with two assists.

Warrington Wolves v Huddersfield Giants (Blake Austin)

Austin scored two tries to make it 14 for the season and move two clear at the top of the scoring charts. The half back also made 105 metres, seven tackle busts and three clean breaks. This is Austin’s sixth three-point performance in the race to the Man of Steel and means the number 6 is now three clear at the top of the leaderboard.
