HAPPY 30TH BIRTHDAY SUPER LEAGUE!

Super League celebrates its 30th birthday in 2026, marking three decades' worth of unforgettable moments, iconic players, and historic rivalries.

Since its launch in 1996, Super League has been defined by innovation - from the summer season switch and introduction of the video referee, to the arrival of French teams, Magic Weekend, IMG Gradings, and much more. And let's not forget Grand Final Night at Old Trafford, which has become one of the biggest events in the rugby league calendar.

As with all sport, Super League has been an emotional rollercoaster for fans of every club; from the highs of a Rivals Round win, late match-winning drama, and lifting silverware, to the lows of relegation, missing out on the Play-Offs and being denied Grand Final glory.

Thirty years on, Super League continues to honour its rich history while looking ahead to an exciting future for the sport.

During our Birthday Month this March and all year-long, we will be honouring the greatest moments, best players and biggest stories from the last 30 seasons of Super League across all our digital and social platforms.

This also includes a series of polls for our supporters to take part in; designed to celebrate and remember the highlights from the last 30 years and retell the tales that have defined us. Some examples of the categories are the ‘Greatest Try', 'Greatest Match’, and ‘Greatest Team’, and can be voted for via the Our League App.

Fans are also invited to help select a Super League 30 All-Time XIII, with a monthly voting system to be rolled out across the competition’s official website, coinciding with relatable content across our channels.

Coming up is a round devoted to Super League’s 30th Birthday (Round 6), where two foundation fixtures will be played from the first round of games back in 1996 - Castleford Tigers will play Bradford Bulls on March 26 and Leeds Rhinos will play Warrington Wolves on March 29, Super League’s actual birth date.

Then, later in the year, Super League will return to where it all began as Round 13 is set to feature a Parisian twist when Catalans Dragons and Wigan Warriors square off at Stade Jean Bouin.

This landmark fixture will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Dragons being in Super League, as well as 30 years since Super League first kicked off between Paris St Germain and Sheffield Eagles on home soil.

Keep an eye out and you might just see your favourite moment from the archives.

Stay with us in 2026 to celebrate reaching this proud milestone.
