Leeds sporting greats come together to say thank you to City’s heroes

Leeds Rhinos, Leeds United and world champion boxer Josh Warrington have come together to show their public gratitude to the front line workers who have helped keep the city running during the coronavirus lockdown. 

The short film, which has been produced, written and voiced by Leeds Rhinos legend Jamie Jones-Buchanan, has been released to recognise the NHS and front line workers who have put themselves in harms way to support their city. Whilst the Leeds Rhinos and Leeds United players are used to the adulation of the adoring Leeds public on the playing field, the clubs have joined up along with Josh Warrington to turn the spotlight on those who have helped the city through this crisis and promises that Leeds will come through the dark times together. 

Commenting on the film, Jones-Buchanan, who is assistant coach at the Rhinos now, commented, “As a proud Loiner, it has been humbling to see the incredible work that our key workers have done for our city and residents over the last few months. They are our friends, our relatives and our neighbours and they are heroes. I know the clap for carers has now finished but we wanted to come together to show our support for their sacrifices. I have been fortunate to have been part of some incredible occasions throughout my life at Emerald Headingley and Elland Road and I know how much the unparalleled support of the people of Leeds means, so it is great that we can repay that support in some small way with this film and let them know that we are still thinking of them.?? 

Both clubs are part of the Big Thank You scheme, co-ordinated by Leeds City Council, which has been set up to provide thousands of free tickets, discounts and special events for NHS and frontline workers across the city as a special thanks for their enormous efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
