It's Coming Home!

"Congratulations to our World Club Champions St Helens - the pride of the Betfred Super League!"

That's the message this morning from Rugby League Commercial Chair Frank Slevin on the back of Saints' gripping golden point victory over reigning NRL champions Penrith Panthers.

St Helens were crowned World Club Champions for the third time following victories over Brisbane Broncos in 2001 and 2007. And in defeating the Panthers 13-12 Down Under, Saints became the first English team to win the world crown in Australia since Wigan famously beat Brisbane Broncos 20-14 at the ANZ Stadium in 1994.

RL Commercial Chair, Frank Slevin, says:
"Congratulations St Helens on behalf of the whole of Rugby League. You are credit to yourselves, the Betfred Super League and the entire game in this country.

"St Helens were written off in some quarters, but you should never write off the Saints. It was a thrilling game and the best team won.

"And the timing of this win could not be better, coming as it does at the start of the Betfred Super League season. It's a real shot in the arm for the competition."

St Helens are the first English Super League team to win the World Club Challenge since Wigan Warriors defeated Cronulla Sharks in 2017. They will return to Betfred Super League action next Sunday (26 February) in front of the Channel 4 cameras at Castleford Tigers.
