Round 4 Round Up
10 Mar 2024

Here is a Round Up of all the Betfred Super League action that took place in Round 4!
On Thursday night, the Sky Sports cameras were in East Hull, as Hull KR entertained Warrington Wolves on home soil. And it was a Super League Thursday thriller, as fans saw nine different try-scorers cross the whitewash - and the Wolves made it three wins on the spin with a 20-22 victory on the road.

It was a close contest from the off, the returning George Williams opening the scores for Warrington seven minutes in, before Matty Ashton went over to give the Wolves a 0-10 lead inside the first 15 minutes. But the Robins would soon respond through Ryan Hall and Tyrone May - equalling the amount of tries scored.
Willie Peters' men then looked to be in control of the game for a short period, but a spilled ball from James Batchelor over the try-line proved to be a defining moment in the match - with the momentum swinging the way of Warrington, as they were given the opportunity to capitalise. And capitalise they did with two tries in two minutes, as top efforts from Toby King and Connor Wrench meant Sam Burgess' men led 12-18 at the break.
The action would continue in the second half, as Hull KR would hit back through Oliver Gildart and Tom Opacic - two wonderful try assists by Ryan Hall and Tyrone May respectively, to send their team-mates over in either corner and add to the drama.
With just ten minutes to go, a play from the scrum saw Warrington's full-back and Player of the Match Matt Dufty slice through the Robins defence for the match-winner, concluding a thoroughly entertaining game.
Friday night saw a tale of two halves in two of its matches, as Leeds Rhinos and Salford Red Devils came from behind to secure successive wins.
It looked like Leigh Leopards were about to register their first win of 2024 on Friday when they racked up a 16-0 lead against Leeds Rhinos - as tries from Kai O'Donnell, Umyla Hanley and two Moylan penalty kicks ensured Leigh were comfortably in front at half-time.
But a late and remarkable resurgence from the rampant Rhinos meant there were 22 unanswered points scored in the final 30 minutes. Rhyse Martin's try 51 minutes in gave Leeds the lease of life they desperately needed, before Matt Frawley crashed over and Ash Handley scored within two minutes of each other, to take the scores level.
Setting up a nervy last ten minutes, it was Ash Handley who came up with the match-winner - once again! A skilful side-step from Brodie Croft and a clever dummy from Rhyse Martin sent Leeds racing away, as Handley was there in support to go over for the try - sealing a 16-22 win for the Rhinos and scoring his seventh try in four matches.

Meanwhile, there was a sensational Salford comeback over at the Totally Wicked Stadium over St Helens, as the Red Devils produced a stunning revival.
The unbeaten Saints had led comfortably 20-6 heading into the final quarter…or so they had thought. They had led through tries from Jack Welsby, Lewis Dodd and Mark Percival, but an outstanding fight back in less than ten minutes soon undid this hard work.
Tries from Nene MacDonald, Chris Atkin and the scintillating match-winner from Deon Cross ended Salford's 44-year wait, securing a memorable 20-24 victory on the road - and consigning St Helens to their first defeat of 2024.

And it was an enjoyable evening for Huddersfield Giants fans, as they inflicted a heavy defeat on Castleford Tigers away at the Jungle. Although a fairly contested first forty, the Giants would go on to produce a dominant display with nine tries, including braces from Adam Swift, Sam Halsall and Leroy Cudjoe. Final result 8-50.
As Ian Watson's men returned to winning ways, the Tigers are left still searching for their first win heading into Round 5.

On Saturday, the Champions would triumph in the capital, as Wigan Warriors proved too strong for London Broncos winning 22-60 at the Cherry Red Records Stadium. The Broncos put up a decent fight in the opening half, as tries from Jacob Jones and Lee Kershaw kept London in the match heading into the second half.
But despite another valiant effort, a flurry of six Wigan tries after the break would cement the win for the Warriors - as they remain unbeaten in 2024.
Following this, Catalans Dragons continued their home form, beating Hull FC, 26-12. The Dragons were aiming to bounce back, whilst the Black and Whites were hoping to build on their Round 4 win against the Broncos.
Hull fell behind early on through tries from Dragons' Jayden Nikorima and Matthieu Laguerre, but it soon became a close contest when Fa'amanu Brown touched down - his second try in two matches.
An early second-half try from Jack Walker then breathed real life into Tony Smith's men, but Arthur Morgue and Tom Davies would go on to seal the victory for Catalans, as Round 4 concluded.
