Warriors Women to kick season off at DW Stadium

Wigan Warriors have confirmed that their Women's side will kick-off the 2024 Betfred Super League season at the DW Stadium on Friday 19 April against Barrow Raiders Ladies.

It will be the first time that the Warriors Women will have played a game at the DW Stadium, in another example of the growth of Women's and Girls' Rugby League at the club. The event will also see a number of local community girls' teams invited to be part of the special occasion.

On the announcement, Warriors Women's captain Vicky Molyneux said: "The support from the Club over the year has been fantastic, providing even more for us to help fulfil our potential and bring about some success this year.

"To be given the honour to play at the DW this year is special. It's an exciting opportunity that will be cherished for a lifetime and it really does mean so much to us all.

"As a squad we feel privileged to be the first women's team to play here, and we hope to put on a show for any fans that can come early to watch us."

The game will be first under the helm of new Head Coach Denis Betts - a Warriors legend who enjoyed two separate spells with the club between 1986-1995 and 1998-2001 lifting the Challenge Cup on seven occasions, the league title six times as well as the World Club Challenge in both 1991 and 1994 and being named as the Man of Steel in 1995.
