Wigan Warriors became the second team to book their spot in the Play-Offs in Round 23 and ensured they will be there to try and retain their champions title for a third year running.
This week, there’s the chance for three more teams to join them – or nobody at all!
Let’s explore the possible outcomes this weekend…
On Thursday Night, Leigh Leopards host Castleford Tigers. If Leigh can win this match, then they will secure their place in the 2025 Play-Offs as it becomes impossible for seventh-placed Wakefield Trinity to catch them with just three regular rounds remaining after Round 24.
If they lose, however, then the Leopards will have to rely on Huddersfield Giants to win against Wakefield on Saturday to be able to confirm their place.
If this doesn’t go to plan, Leigh will have to wait another week before they can be assured a top six spot.
Friday Night is massive for both Hull KR and St Helens.
If the Robins win, they will take one step closer to securing their first ever League Leaders’ Shield and in the process could also ensure themselves a home Semi-Final tie if Leeds were to lose on Saturday.
If St Helens win, Paul Wellens’ men are immediately guaranteed a Play-Off place. If they can’t overcome the table toppers on Friday, however, then they’ll have to hope for either a Hull FC or Wakefield loss to get official confirmation.
This means regardless of their Round 24 result, Saints could see the Play-Offs promised in Round 24.
Fast forward to Saturday and victory for Leeds Rhinos will see them qualify for the 2025 Play-Offs there and then, as they continue to battle it out with Wigan, Saints and Leigh for a second-place finish and a home Semi-Final tie - both of which are still up for grabs.
However, sixth-placed Hull FC could have a lot to say about all of the above. Their destiny is ultimately in their own hands, and if the Black & Whites do pull off a win, then Leeds and Saints (if Saints have lost) will need Wakefield to lose their game against Huddersfield to secure the Play-Offs this week.
But that is a huge ask with Wakefield needing a win to stay in the race for sixth. A Hull loss coupled with a Trin win would see Daryl Powell’s side leapfrog John Cartwright’s men as the Play-Off battle between the two intensifies.
Finally, Wigan's showdown in the south of France with Catalans Dragons could have huge implications, especially if the Warriors win and the Robins lose.
This would see the League Leaders' Shield race take a very exciting turn, with the champions moving to just two points behind first place once again...
