Who's ready for The Final Charge of the 2025 season? ?
Round 12 gets underway this weekend with St Helens surpassing the dominant Wigan Warriors to sit undefeated at the top of the league table. But with just one point separating the two, and York Valkyrie sitting close in third position, there is still a fight ahead for the League Leaders’ Shield.
This Saturday (30 August) Saints host York Valkyrie at the Totally Wicked Stadium (KO 12pm) in what promises to be an intense fight for the top LIVE on The Sportsman. The Valkyrie are looking to put an end to another undefeated run to continue their climb up the competition tree.
Their last meeting was the Betfred Women’s Challenge Cup semi-final where St Helens grasped a narrow win despite strong defensive attacks from both sides.
An error from York saw Dani McGifford cross in the corner for Saints, before a knock on from the restart gave York an immediate opportunity and a conversion from Ellie Williamson saw York take the lead. Both teams continued to deny each other chances in the first half but continued pressure from the Saints in the second meant they would come out victorious at 12-16.
Elsewhere, Leigh Leopards face Huddersfield Giants at Golbourne Parkside (KO 12pm).
The two have only previously met three times with Huddersfield taking the win on every occasion and Giants superstar Amelia Brown putting in an incredible performance against the Leopards in Round 3.
Brown set the Giants up for a dominant finish, scoring a hat-trick of tries in just half an hour. The Leopards pulled the score back to 14-6 at half time with a converted try from Charlotte Melvin, but it wasn’t enough to build momentum and Huddersfield took the game at 32-6.
Then, Wigan will be looking to get back to winning ways when they travel to Barrow Raiders (KO 2pm).
The Warriors will be hoping for a repeat of Round 2 where Denis Betts’ side showed great dominance to score a century and win 106-6. Wigan scored nine first half tries, including doubles from sisters Ruby and Eva Hunter. Barrow made it over the line to take the score to 50-6 at half time, but the Raiders fell short in the second half and a treble of hat tricks led the Warriors to victory.
All teams will be looking to produce strong performances as the Final Charge continues in the race to the semi-finals...
Warrington Wolves versus Leeds Rhinos will no longer take place on Sunday, due to the Wolves forfeiting their Round 12 fixture. Details can be found here.
