BWSL Grand Final: Foubister fired up as Warriors chase final piece of treble

Wigan Warriors will host York Valkyrie in the Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final on Sunday (27 September) after another strong campaign in 2026 that sees them reach the competition’s biggest stage.

The Warriors last faced the Valkyrie in the final round of the Super 4 competition as they attempted to finish the season unbeaten to improve upon last year’s already strong performance.

But with home advantage on their side, York pulled off one of their strongest performances of the season at LNER Community Stadium to give Wigan their first loss in all competitions this season:

“It wasn't the best of our game. They put up a very good fight and they did it well and we just didn't put up our best fight,” said Warriors’ stand-off and 2026 Woman of Steel nominee, Jenna Foubister.

“We can review that and hopefully come back to our old selves.”

“They beat us last year, it wasn't the best. But when you've got a coach that knows how you girls work, it's always what's next? What are we doing next?

“There were loads of girls not happy with the performance, myself included, but you've just got to focus on what's to come now, that's in the past, you've got to put it behind you and see what we can do next.”

As 2026 Betfred Challenge Cup and League Leaders’ Shield winners, the Super League trophy is the final piece of the Warriors’ puzzle as they look to complete back-to-back trebles following on from an incredible season in 2025:

“I think it's always been in our eyesight since we won [the treble], but it puts a lot of pressure on us as a team. We've got to find a way to deal with that.

“We need to recognise as well that we need to focus on the game first and completing well and doing all the correct things.”

As League Leaders, the Warriors earned home advantage heading into the final, leaving them excited to play in front of another enthusiastic crowd at The Brick Community Stadium:

“Last year we had a record-breaking crowd for that Grand Final at home and hopefully we can top those numbers again because it meant the world to us, especially when you've got the fans behind you shouting your name.

“They did it when we played at Leeds away and it's the best feeling. It hypes you up as a team so hopefully everyone can get down and enjoy.”

It’s been just as strong a season for the Warriors’ Men’s side who head into the Semi-Finals this weekend after also finishing the regular season as league leaders.

The Women’s side will be supporting them as they head into the weekend and are excited to have their backing in return:

“We always go and watch the men’s team when we can. They're one of the best teams in the league at the minute and I think us looking up to them and supporting them benefits us when they come and do it to us, hopefully, for the Grand Final."
