York Valkyrie crowned 2026 Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final Champions

York Valkyrie have been crowned the 2026 Betfred Women’s Super League Champions after beating Wigan Warriors at The Brick Community Stadium this weekend.

Valkyrie put up a huge defensive effort to keep the Warriors at bay and become the first side to win the Betfred Women’s Super League Grand Final three times.

York took control early when Sinead Peach headed over in the ninth minute, breaking through the Wigan defence and twisting her way over the line.

The Warriors responded at the 18th as Jenna Foubister made an excellent break before Mia-Jayne Atherton finished the move to score.

A dangerous tackle on Jas Bell from Atherton helped York regain the lead after Ellie Williamson converted the penalty and put them two points clear.

Valkyrie continued to threaten with Amelie Lenham coming close to scoring and Liv Wood being stopped just short of the line after half-time.

The second half was dominated by Wigan, who spent long periods attacking York’s defence. But the Valkyrie defended brilliantly, refusing to give their opponents a way through and sealing their victory at 8-6.

Lenham was outstanding throughout the game, earning the Player of the Match award after making several important tackles and defensive plays.

The game marks the conclusion of another thrilling Betfred Women’s Super League season, with Wigan’s Foubister, Eva Hunter and Megan Williams all in the running for the 2026 Woman of Steel Award which will be announced at the Rugby League Awards night in Manchester on Tuesday.
