Man of Steel Contenders: Mikey Lewis
2 Oct 2025

As the 2025 season comes to a close, one name again looms large in the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel Award conversation: magic Mikey Lewis.
The reigning Man of Steel, Lewis is the man to beat as he looks to retain his crown following another historic season for Hull KR.
He would become only the fourth player to win the award more than once since it was introduced in 1977, and only the second to retain it (after Paul Sculthorpe in 2001 and 2002).

In 2025, Lewis hasn’t just maintained his place amongst the elite – instead he has stepped up and set a new bar entirely.

One year on from his achievement of being Hull KR’s first Man of Steel in the Super League era, Lewis is keen to prove that this moment wasn’t the end goal, but in fact, was the beginning.
The statistics already make a compelling case. Individually, Lewis finished fourth in the Super League listings for tries, adding 19 to the Robins’ total. He also sits in third for try assists and added 94 points in 24 games – the second most points for a Robins player, behind Arthur Mourgue.

Add to that numerous Sky Sports’ Player of the Match medals and nominations for Glen’s Vodka Player of the Month, the 24-year-old sets a benchmark for his peers.
Whether it's magical moments or match-winners, the heroic half-back has been in unstoppable form in 2025, whilst maturing admirably along the way.

Lewis, who wears his heart on his sleeve, has been integral to Robins' success this year and continues to be the true mastermind behind their attack.
Coupled with individual brilliance, Lewis is also a terrific team player.

The highlights reel would be a long one for Willie Peters' side this season, but ending their 40-year wait for silverware with the Challenge Cup, a clean sweep of Hull Derbies, and their remarkable consistency to lift the League Leaders' Shield immediately spring to mind, all of which Lewis has helped lead them to.

Recently, their magician marked his second, consecutive appearance in the annual Super League Dream Team. The Robins had the most players feature from any side in 2025 as Lewis was joined by teammates Dean Hadley, Peta Hiku and Jez Litten.
On being a part of Lewis' team, Litten said:
“I love playing with Mikey. He's a really good friend on and off the pitch - we travel into work together and I just can't get rid of him really! He's almost like a little brother.
“What can I say about Mikey that hasn't been said already... he's just an absolute maverick, he's the reigning Man of Steel, and he's really massive for us.
“When he plays well, we play well as a team and we're really grateful to have him.”
In a symbolic gesture, 2025 saw Hull KR un-retire their famous number 6 shirt, worn by the club’s greatest Robin, Roger Millward MBE, and bestow the honour on their homegrown talent, Lewis.

Lewis has adorned the shirt this year, with the blessing of Roger’s family, as he works to etch his own name in the club's history books.
And off the field, he has made yet another huge statement, marking his intent to stick by the Robins and build his future in East Hull with a contract extension until 2030.
Now, with two trophies under their belt, just 80 minutes stands between Hull KR and back-to-back Grand Final appearances, as they head into their Semi-Final with St Helens on Saturday (4 October).
And as they make their final push, one thing’s for certain – their star man will be doing all that he can to get them over the line.
Will Lewis achieve the treble with Hull KR in 2025?
