Rhyse Martin: We want to do it again

Rhyse Martin was in dreamland with the Robins last season.

Hull KR won everything on offer to them, securing a historic treble and becoming just the fifth club to ever lift to Super League trophy.

But are the Robins one-season wonders? Martin doesn’t think so, and instead insists that his side are striving to be the best once again in 2026:

“We want to do it again. That’s the goal. That’s what we’re working hard towards.

“Looking back, it was such a big year. There were so many highs for us to celebrate.

“As a playing group, we just went week by week, adopting a next job mentality and it worked.

“It was only once I stopped playing for the year that I could really reflect on all the things that we did achieve and especially all the hard work we put in.

“I think we just maintained that level of consistency throughout the year.”

Hull KR are the team to beat in the competition and have worked their way right to the very top.

Now a genuine force to be reckoned with in Super League, Martin puts it down to hard work and determination, as well as a strong relationship with the fans and community as a key driving factor:

“The club has been at its lowest points in the past, but there has been so much hard work that the people at the club have put in. The fans have also stayed loyal. That’s what got the club to where it was last year.

“Last season's highs were phenomenal. It was a real collective to ensure we brought those results home.”

The majority of Willie Peters’ team will stay the same in 2026, with a couple of new additions:

“Having the majority of the same squad helps with building on what we did well last season,” Martin explained.

“We've brought in a few experienced and quality players to fill the boots of JWH (Jared Waerea-Hargreaves) and Micky McIlorum.

“It’s always good to have some new faces come in because they bring in a different energy and different experiences and things that they can add to the squad.”

There may be three trophies sitting inside their silverware cabinet in East Hull, but the Robins are raring to go and will be doing everything they can to retain every one of their titles:

“We're excited. We've just got to keep that energy and focus and try to not just rest on our laurels from what we did well last year.

“We need to keep trying to build and keep trying to be the best team each week. We'll be trying to win everything.”

Hull KR will start their 2026 Betfred Super League season this Thursday, making the trip to the newly promoted York Knights.

This is before a mouthwatering clash with Brisbane Broncos awaits in the Betfred World Club Challenge exactly a week later.

“It’s going to be a great opportunity," said Martin.

"It's great that we get to play Brisbane and just knowing what they are going to bring for the World Club Challenge.

“Going up against one of the biggest rugby league teams in the world, is going to be exciting for the whole community. It's going to be a good kind of level to see where we're at as a team and as a club.

“Hopefully it’ll set our season up nicely and we can build some confidence following these games.”

And a fantastic February for Martin and the Robins doesn’t stop there. Once the World Club Challenge is done and dusted, the treble-winners will be jetting off to a dazzling Las Vegas to represent Super League alongside Leeds Rhinos.

“Vegas is exciting. Watching it last year was just looked unreal. The atmosphere looked really exciting.

"Just the whole build up and all the fan engagements that the teams do, and getting around Vegas and seeing what it's all about...I think it's going to be a great experience, personally.

“Yes, we want to walk away with the two points, but the memories are going to be important, and it’ll be something that we will reflect on because who knows how long it's going to continue.

“I think if we can go over there, especially with the World Club Challenge leading into that, it's going to be vital for us to build our season off those two games because it's going to be pretty hectic.

“We play Brisbane and then we're straight on to a plane over to Vegas to play Leeds, and they will be a tough team to beat.”
