Matt Peet named Betfred Super League Coach of the Month for February

Wigan Warriors Head Coach Matt Peet has won the first Betfred Super League Coach of the Month award for 2026.

Based on the first three rounds of Betfred Super League, Peet has been voted February’s Coach of the Month after an impressive and unbeaten start to the campaign.

The Warriors kicked off the season with a 16-26 victory against Castleford Tigers. Despite trailing for much of the opening half, Liam Marshall opened up the scoring 33 minutes in before Bevan French went over to give them a 6-10 lead at half time.

Zach Eckersley’s second half brace fuelled the Cherry & Whites’ comeback and they emerged from the OneBore Stadium with a hard-fought win to start their season.

In their home opener, they faced Hull FC in front of a packed audience of 16,000 at The Brick Community Stadium. Peet’s side wasted little time getting started, taking it to 6-0 within the first five minutes after Sam Walters crossed the line and Adam Keighran added the conversion.

The Warriors continued their reign over the Black and Whites, leading 24-0 at the break. FC fought back, finally getting on the board as Harvie Hill made it over in the 76th minute, but it was too late as a second try from Player of the Match, Jai Field, solidified the Warriors’ win at 34-6.

In the third round, the Warriors put on their most dominant display of the season so far, preventing Leigh Leopards from putting any points on the board.

A series of quick succession tries, including a brace from Junior Nsemba, with all nine converted by Keighran, meant they finished the month with three wins from three.

One member of the voting panel said: “Wigan roared into life in 2026 with some hugely dominant performances and an intensity I don't think anyone has matched thus far.

“Matt Peet has got the Warriors fired up but equally controlled and composed within that on the back of a trophyless 2025. They are the benchmark right now.”

The voting panel for Betfred Coach of the Month is made up of selected members of the Rugby League media.
