Round 19 Round Up

Round 19 got underway on Thursday evening, as the Bulls faced Trinity.

Daryl Powell’s side raced into the lead inside the opening two minutes, with Tom Johnstone crossing.

In a closely fought contest, tries from Josh Rourke and Harvey Smith made sure of the 26-12 success for Trinity.

The Saints got back to winning ways on Friday with victory over the Dragons.

Young debutant, Jack Campbell scored twice in a Player of the Match performance.

The Dragons had opened the scoring through Charlie Staines, however, St Helens’ second rower Jed Cartwright haunted his dad’s Dragons when hitting back in the 18^th minute.

26 second half points from the hosts was enough to power past the Dragons to complete a 32-18 win.

Saints face the Warriors in Rivals Round Returned and Matt Peet’s men will go into it on a good run of form, this was helped with victory in the other game on Friday evening.

For much of the match, it was tight. However, two tries in the final four minutes from Zach Eckersley, to complete his hat-trick, saw the Warriors defeat the Giants.

Arguably performance of the weekend came on the opening game of Saturday, with the Wolves proving far too strong for the Champions.

A relentless first half from the Wolves saw them fly into a 22-0 lead courtesy of tries from Lachlan Webster, James Harrison, Matty Ashton and Danny Walker.

Joe Philbin and a second from Ashton added to the hosts scoring, meanwhile the Robins could only score twice including a consolation try from James Batchelor before the hooter.

A game of two halves took place in Hull as the Leopards defeated Hull FC.

Adrian Lam’s side scored 28 unanswered first half points, with Josh Charnley, Adam Cook, a double from David Armstrong and a try from Umyla Hanley.

Despite the contest looked gone, FC did fight back, winning the second half 22-4, but ultimately losing the match 22-32.

Toulouse Olympique’s perfect July continued, with their third win in as many matches.

Five first half tries put them into a 28-0 lead at the break.

The Knights fought back with four tries of their own, but the task proved too much as Toulouse held on for a 30-22 success.

An entertaining clash concluded Round 19, as the Tigers came from behind to take the spoils in a West Yorkshire derby.

It looked like it could be a long afternoon for Ryan Carr’s Tigers, when Leeds put themselves 20-0 ahead inside 24 minutes.

Mikaele Ravalawa, Ashton Golding and Jason Qareqare all scored to make it 20-16 to Leeds heading into the break.

In the second half, early tries from the Rhinos made it seem like the league leaders would leave with the two points.

However, three tries from Castleford saw them snatch the lead back to hold on in the 36-34 contest.
