A League Leaders' Shield Decider awaits on Saturday Night. But who will be sitting top of the Betfred Super League table with just one round remaining?

Leeds Rhinos host Wigan Warriors at AMT Headingley Stadium in a mouthwatering Round 26 clash that could have major ramifications heading into the Play-Offs.

Both sides are locked on 40 league points, meaning the winners will move two points clear at the summit with one game left to play. It is a fitting scenario for two of Super League's heavyweights, who have once again emerged as the benchmark in 2026.

The Rhinos are seeking their first League Leaders' Shield since 2015, the season in which they famously completed the treble under Brian McDermott. Fast forward to present day, and the Blue & Amber have really resurged under Brad Arthur’s reign in the last few seasons.

Wigan, meanwhile, are looking to continue their recent dominance after lifting the Shield in both 2023 and 2024 as part of an unprecedented quadruple-winning campaign.

In the Super League era, Leeds have claimed the Shield three times (2004, 2009 and 2015), while Wigan have finished top of the pile on five occasions (2010, 2012, 2020, 2023 and 2024).

While a place in the history books is on the line, current form suggests both sides are more than worthy contenders.

Remarkably, both teams have won 20 of their 25 league fixtures this season, and Wigan arrive in West Yorkshire carrying formidable momentum.

The Warriors have won each of their last 13 Super League matches, setting a new competition record for themselves in the process, and Matt Peet's side are showing no signs of stopping.

Leeds have responded strongly to a disappointing defeat at Leigh two weeks ago, recording back-to-back victories to keep pace with the Warriors and ensure Saturday's meeting has become a straight shootout for top spot.

The Rhinos have suffered just one defeat on at AMT Headingley all year.

For supporters of both clubs, the sight of Leeds and Wigan battling for the League Leaders' Shield instantly evokes memories of one of the most dramatic nights in Super League history.

Let’s cast our minds back to 2015…

Heading into the final round of the regular season in 2015, Leeds and Wigan were level on points. As Leeds trailed Huddersfield and Wigan looked set to defeat Castleford, the League Leaders' Shield was placed aboard a helicopter and prepared for a presentation in Greater Manchester.

What happened next has become rugby league folklore.

With the helicopter famously hovering between the two venues, Leeds produced a late fightback before Ryan Hall scored in the dying seconds against the Giants to snatch a 20-16 victory and secure top spot.

The dramatic turnaround forced the trophy's destination to change at the very last moment, creating one of the competition's most iconic moments.

Eleven years on, Leeds and Wigan once again find themselves locked together at the top of the table, with another Shield potentially hanging in the balance.

As Super League marks 30 years, could anyone have scripted it any better?

Looking ahead to Saturday, everything points towards an absolute thriller.

Recent meetings have been fiercely competitive, with both teams littered with superstars.

Wigan won the reverse fixture 24-4 in Round 11, but it's the home side who has won each of the last five Super League meetings between the clubs.

It was an exhilarating 12-10 encounter last time out in Leeds.

Will Saturday's result come down to either Jake Connor or Harry Smith's influence as the two playmakers go head-to-head?
