Matt Peet named Betfred Coach of the Month for August

Matt Peet has been named Betfred Super League Coach of the Month for August after leading Wigan Warriors through another unbeaten month. 

Voting covered Rounds 22 to 25, a spell that began with the Warriors securing their tenth straight win by defeating Toulouse Olympique.

The victory was inspired by the brilliance of dynamic duo Bevan French and Jai Field.

Both players scored superb tries for the relentless Warriors, while Zach Eckersley added two more to his growing tally. Liam Marshall also crossed twice, with Noah Hodkinson and Sam Eseh adding further scores.

In Round 23, Wigan took full advantage with a 6-34 win over a struggling Bradford Bulls side at Bartercard Odsal Stadium.

Young duo Taylor Kerr and Kian McDermott each claimed their first tries for the Warriors alongside French, Jake Wardle and Adam Keighran.

Wigan maintained their outstanding form with a 26-12 victory over Wakefield Trinity at The Brick Community Stadium in Round 24.

The Warriors started quickly and never looked back, building a 20-point half-time lead. French and Field produced stunning solo tries, while Marshall added a double.

Wakefield replied after the break through Corey Hall and Ky Rodwell, but Peet’s side had already done enough to seal another Super League victory and keep pressure on at the top of the table.

August’s final round saw Wigan record a 13th straight Super League win as they continued to battle the Rhinos at the top of the table in the Final Charge. 

It was an emotional evening at The Brick Community Stadium, where tributes were paid to the late Sir Billy Boston.

The Warriors faced a youthful Hull KR side in a Grand Final rematch, but delivered a ruthless display to keep their opponents scoreless.

Marshall completed a hat-trick, with Field, Eckersley, Keighran and Wardle also scoring in a 46-0 win. 

One voting panel member said: “Wigan have been unassailable since the Challenge Cup win including August's hotting-up period and Matt Peet deserves immense credit for backing his youth, supplementing a hugely talented squad with the shoots of the future and yet maintaining the level of performance expected of elite personnel.

“He spreads belief and confidence and the growth of Taylor Kerr, Shea O'Connor and Kian McDermott is largely down to the environment he and his staff create at Wigan.”
