Round 27 Preview

The Final Charge reaches its dramatic conclusion this week as the 2026 Betfred Super League regular season comes to an end.

All roads lead to a blockbuster "Frantic Friday", where five matches kick off simultaneously and the race for places takes centre stage.

Whilst the top six has now been settled, there is still plenty to play for throughout the table heading into the final round.

At the summit, League Leaders' Shield contenders Wigan Warriors and Leeds Rhinos will be under the spotlight.

Wigan know victory over Catalans Dragons will secure top spot, whilst Leeds must beat Hull FC and hope the Dragons can do them a favour.

Elsewhere, the battle for fourth place could go down to the wire when Leigh Leopards host Wakefield Trinity, while Warrington Wolves and Hull KR look to build momentum ahead of the Play-Offs.

And which side will finish bottom of the pile? It could be anyone from tenth to fourteenth.

Thursday 10 September

York Knights v Bradford Bulls (20:00) - live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

Round 27 gets underway at the LNER Community Stadium as York Knights welcome Bradford Bulls on Thursday Night.

The Bulls were victorious when the sides met earlier this season, running out 30-20 winners in June.

History between the two clubs has been closely contested in recent years, with York winning six of the last ten meetings across all competitions, including victories in both Championship and 1895 Cup action.

This fixture also kickstarts the battle to avoid a bottom-placed finish, with these two newly promoted sides wanting to end their year on a high.

Frantic Friday (11 September)

Wigan Warriors v Catalans Dragons (20:00) - live on Sky Sports

The headline fixture of Frantic Friday takes place at The Brick Community Stadium, where Wigan Warriors know victory will secure their sixth League Leaders' Shield.

The Warriors enter the contest with a formidable record against the Dragons, having won their last eight meetings with them.

They have scored 40 points or more in three of those victories, including a 16-40 win earlier this season in Paris and a 4-40 triumph in Perpignan last year.

Wigan leapfrogged Leeds into top spot last Saturday, after beating their top two rivals 8-40 at an electric AMT Headingley, with their destiny now in their own hands.

Can they produce a fifteen straight win and bring another piece of silverware home?

Leeds Rhinos v Hull FC (20:00) - live on Sky Sports

There will be plenty of eyes on AMT Headingley as Leeds Rhinos also continue their pursuit of the League Leaders' Shield.

The Rhinos must win and hope results elsewhere go their way if they are to overhaul the Warriors at the top of the table after surrendering first place last weekend.

The Rhinos have won seven of the last ten meetings against the Black & Whites, which stands them in good stead.

While Leeds will want to produce a statement win, Hull FC will be hoping to give their army of supporters a strong performance to end the season on.

Leigh Leopards v Wakefield Trinity (20:00) - live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

One of the standout fixtures of the round takes place at the Leigh Sports Village as two of league's entertainers go head-to-head, and will be looking to gather momentum ahead of the Play-Offs.

Wakefield currently hold fourth place, but the Leopards could still overtake them - if they can beat their opponents by 28 points or more.

Both sides developed an increasingly competitive rivalry in recent seasons.

Leigh have won six of the last eight Super League encounters, although Trinity claimed victory in the reverse fixture earlier this season (18-14).

They also crossed paths in last year's Eliminator, with Leigh producing an impressive 26-10 victory.

Another Play-Offs meeting between the clubs is a high likely scenario, but before attention turns to this, there is important business to take care of in Round 27.

And with home advantage in the 2026 Eliminators on the line, this could be a significant dress rehearsal for the weeks ahead and could prove to be one of the most exciting contests of the round.

Warrington Wolves v Toulouse Olympique (20:00) - live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

Warrington Wolves return to the Halliwell Jones Stadium knowing a home Eliminator tie awaits them the following week.

Only Trinity can catch them in third place, but with their Play-Off position already confirmed, Sam Burgess' side will be looking to carry momentum into the post-season after enjoying a strong home campaign throughout 2026.

Toulouse, however, arrive in Warrington full of confidence having won each of their last three matches.

The sides met earlier this season, with the Wolves claiming a hard-fought 24-16 victory in the south of France, highlighting the challenge Toulouse are capable of posing.

There is still plenty for the visitors to play for too.

Sylvain Houles' men are aiming to secure eighth place, which would see them end their campaign above their French rivals Catalans in the standings - an impressive feat in their return season to the top flight.

St Helens v Hull KR (20:00) - live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

Although Saints' long-standing Play-Off run has come to an end, pride remains on the line as they host Hull KR in Frantic Friday’s fifth and final offering.

The Robins arrive having won each of the last seven meetings between the clubs, including a dominant 52-10 success earlier this season.

The visitors have already secured a Play-Off place and will be eager to prepare for their title defence with another statement performance.

Huddersfield Giants v Castleford Tigers (15:00) - live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

The final regular season fixture of 2026 takes place at the Accu Stadium as Huddersfield Giants face Castleford Tigers in a local derby.

It will also be Huddersfield's final home game at this venue, as they prepare to make the move to the FLAIR Stadium in Dewsbury next year. 

The Tigers won the reverse fixture 34-8 earlier this year, but recent meetings have generally favoured the Giants, who have won eight of the last ten encounters.

As the curtain comes down on 2026 for eight clubs, both sides will be determined to finish on a winning note before the focus switches to 2027...
