Round 27 Preview

There’s one more regular round to go in the 2025 Betfred Super League season!

With two Thursday Night thrillers and a feast of Final Charge Friday action, it promises to be an exciting final round!

Will Hull KR lift the League Leaders’ Shield on Thursday Night? Where will everybody in the top six finish? And will it be Wakefield Trinity or Hull FC who claim the sixth and final Play-Off spot?

The Eliminator ties will also be confirmed following this round of results.

For Warrington Wolves, Catalans Dragons, Huddersfield Giants, Castleford Tigers and Salford Red Devils, their season will come to its conclusion this week.

Thursday 18 September

Hull KR v Warrington Wolves (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

Sewell Group Craven Park is set to be rocking on Thursday Night, as Hull KR host Warrington Wolves.

The League Leaders’ Shield is ready and waiting, and a win for the Robins would see them finally lift this in front of a home crowd.

Willie Peters’ men have remarkably topped the table since Round 4, but will they be celebrating another piece of silverware in Round 27? It’s going to be electric!

The Hull KR coach has named a strong 21-man squad for their final game of the regular season. Joe Burgess drops out of the squad while Rhyse Martin is added back in after serving his two-match ban.

A youthful Wolves outfit has been revealed for Round 27. James Duffy, Ben Hartill, Ewan Irwin, Tom McKinney and Lachlan Webster are all included, and Lucas Green is recalled. Lachlan Fitzgibbon and Luke Yates are both unavailable through suspension.

Hull FC v Catalans Dragons (20.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

On the other side of Hull and at exactly the same time, Hull FC will be fighting to keep their Play-Off hopes alive.

John Cartwright’s side will face Joel Tomkins’ Catalans Dragons and will be hoping to replicate their fantastic performance against them in Round 13; where the Black & Whites scored 34 unanswered points in the south of France.

Hull must win to stay in the pursuit for a Play-Off place, although they are also counting on Wakefield Trinity to lose to Salford Red Devils the next day.

This is the only possible way Hull can leapfrog Trinity into sixth and the race to get there is out of their hands.

The hosts are also coming up against a much-improved Dragons outfit, who pulled off a shock win against Leeds Rhinos in Round 26.

Do we have an intense battle on the cards? And if FC do win, then they’ll have to wait 24 hours with bated breath until the Wakefield result against Salford…

Amir Bourouh and Yusuf Aydin return to the Hull side from suspension, replacing Sam Eseh, who misses out through head injury protocols, and Will Kirby.

The Black & Whites still have a number of notable omissions through injuries and suspensions.

For Catalans in the final round, Tevita Pangai Jr, Alrix Da Costa and Oliver Partington replace Tariq Sims, Tanguy Zenon and Léo Darrélatour in the squad as they look to record back-to-back wins.

'Final Charge' Friday 19 September

Wigan Warriors v Leeds Rhinos (20.00) – live on Sky Sports

A storied Super League rivalry will kick off Final Charge Friday as Wigan Warriors entertain Leeds Rhinos at The Brick.

Wigan have already secured a home Semi-Final, while Leeds have banked a home Eliminator.

The champions are on fire at present and aiming for a fifth straight win. The Warriors have dominated their last four matches, scoring a whopping 164 in attack, while conceding just sixteen points. 

This in turn, has narrowed gap between themselves and Hull KR in the Super League table.

If the Robins lose Thursday’s fixture, could Wigan go on and do the unthinkable – win and overturn a -41 points difference to snatch the Shield?

Standing in their way are Brad Arthur’s Rhinos, who have been one of the league’s chief entertainers in 2025…

Their last meeting saw the Rhinos clinch a dramatic Round 5 12-10 victory following a wild Ryan Hall rugby header assist. 

Who's ready for another classic?

Matt Peet's Warriors have made one change to their 21-man squad as Adam Keighran returns to replace Jacob Douglas.

Meanwhile, the Rhinos welcome back prop Tom Nicholson-Watton from injury whilst Joe Shorrocks from suspension. Presley Cassell also returns to the 21-man squad.

Leeds are without full back Lachie Miller, winger Ryan Hall and hooker Andy Ackers after all three were ruled out through injury this week. 

Leigh Leopards v Huddersfield Giants (20.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

Leigh Leopards will enjoy home advantage once again in Round 27 – and will welcome Huddersfield Giants on Friday Night.

Last week, the Leopards beat St Helens to secure a home Eliminator in the Play-Offs, as well as their highest ever finish in the Super League era.

They now have an opportunity to ensure a third-place finish with a win over the Giants this week.

Interestingly, their two encounters this year have been close contests – 24-28 back in Round 13, as well as 24-10 scoreline back in Round 2.

Leigh came out winners on both occasions, but what action will unfold on the final day?

Adrian Lam’s men have won eight of their last ten Super League matches and will be looking to gather momentum ahead of the Play-Offs.

Luke Robinson’s side, on the other hand, will try to end their season on a positive note.

The Leopards welcome back Ethan O'Neill to their side for Round 27, while the Giants rewarded Lewis Jagger with a spot in the squad for his season with the Academy and Reserves. Leroy Cudjoe is also set for his final ever game in Rugby League.

Salford Red Devils v Wakefield Trinity (20.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

Prepare for some final day drama as Wakefield Trinity head to Salford Red Devils for Round 27.

Wakefield’s destiny is in their own hands as they know a victory at the Salford Community Stadium will guarantee them a place in the 2025 Play-Offs, and that’s irrespective of the Hull FC result on Thursday.

Daryl Powell’s men will be confident of getting the job done, but if Hull were to win on Thursday, then this will certainly pile on the pressure.

Will there be many nerves flying around on Friday Night?

Trinity's 21-man squad that was named against Hull KR in Round 26 remains unchanged.

St Helens v Castleford Tigers (20.00) – live on Sky Sports+ and SuperLeague+

Round 27 also sees St Helens take on Castleford Tigers as the Red V look to return to winning ways ahead of the Eliminators.

Paul Wellens has made seven changes to this week's team.

Morgan Knowles is back available for selection after following HIA return to play protocols and further advice, and he is joined by Lewis Murphy and Noah Stephens who are returning from injuries.

Young Saints Will Roberts, Leon Cowen, Jake Davies, and Cole Marsh are also included in the squad. New Saint on loan Shane Wright holds his place from last week’s 21-man squad.
