BWhcSL: Round 10 Preview

The Betfred Wheelchair Super League returns this weekend (1/2 August), with the reverse of the Round 2 fixtures seeing home advantage swapped in several familiar encounters.

Opening the weekend are Wigan Warriors who host Halifax Panthers (KO 1:15pm).

Round 2 saw the defending champions underline their title credentials with a commanding 76-12 victory over the Warriors.

The Panthers stormed into an early lead as Rob Hawkins secured a hat-trick in four minutes with brothers Joe Calcott and Jack Brown helping to seal an emphatic result.

Returning home this weekend, Wigan are hoping to produce a much-improved performance against the reigning champions after working hard all season to improve their position in the standings.

Sheffield Eagles claimed their first Super League victory of the season when they defeated Bradford Bulls 74-46 in an entertaining Round 2 encounter.

The contest was closely fought during the opening period with Sheffield taking a 40-26 lead into the break before pulling away in the second half.

Joe Wink-Simmonds and Luis Domingos proved influential as the Eagles took control after half-time, despite Bradford’s Kieron Johnson crossing twice and converting six of the Bulls’ eight tries.

With the home advantage this time around, Bradford will be eager to avenge that defeat and earn their first win of the 2026 campaign (KO 1:30pm).

Saturday concludes with Leeds Rhinos hosting London Roosters after the Roosters ran out 80-40 winners when the teams met at the beginning of the season (KO 2:30pm). 

Leeds stayed within touching distance during an entertaining first-half, trailing by just ten points at the break.

But the Roosters produced a dominant second-half display to pull away.

Captain Lewis King crossed for five tries whilst reigning Wheels of Steel winner, Joe Coyd, added four tries and six conversions in another outstanding performance.

The Rhinos will be hoping home surroundings can help them to improve upon the second round’s outcome. 

The final game of the weekend sees Hull FC host Edinburgh Giants on Sunday (KO 2pm).

FC edged one of the closest contests of the season when the sides met in Round 2, holding off a spirited Edinburgh comeback to secure a thrilling 30-32 victory.

After racing into an 0-18 lead, the Black and Whites looked in complete control before the Giants mounted an impressive recovery that took the game right down to the final whistle. 

Now playing in front of their own supporters, Hull will be looking for a more comfortable afternoon and another valuable two points.

Edinburgh, meanwhile, will take confidence from the way they pushed FC to their limits last time and will be hoping to rewrite the story and edge the win.
