Super Four & Shield: Round 5 Preview

It’s the penultimate round in the Betfred Women’s Super League Super Four and Shield Competitions with plenty still to play for heading into Round 5.

Leeds Rhinos kick off the Super Four action on Saturday as they face Wigan Warriors, aiming to secure their place in the BWSL Semi-Final – live on Sky Sports (5 September, KO 5:15pm).

With Wigan already confirmed as League Leaders, the remaining three teams are battling for a place in the Semi-Final on Friday 18 September, where second and third will meet for the last Grand Final spot.

Victory over the Warriors would see Leeds claim the first Semi-Final place and keep their Grand Final hopes alive.

On Sunday (6 September, KO 12pm), York Valkyrie host St Helens, looking to build on last weekend’s win over the Saints.

After a slow start to the season, York have found form since the competition split, earning wins over Leeds Rhinos and St Helens that had looked unlikely in the early rounds.

York can also book their Semi-Final place this weekend with another victory over Saints, who must win to stay in the competition.

In the Shield Competition, Featherstone Rovers host Barrow Raiders as the Raiders fight to avoid the Promotion Play-Off Final against the winners of the Women’s Championship (5 September, KO 2pm).

The pair last met two weeks ago when the Rovers earned a narrow win after a strong second half. This weekend, the Raiders will be fighting to close the gap and earn their second win of the season.

The final game of the weekend sees Huddersfield Giants welcome Leigh Leopards (6 September, KO 2pm). The Giants have been flying in the Shield Competition, having won every game since the season split.

This weekend they’ll be hoping to continue their positive run against the Leopards who are battling to avoid the Promotion Play-Off Final alongside Barrow.
