Denis Betts named 2026 Betfred Women's Super League Coach of the Year

Wigan Warriors head coach Denis Betts has been named the Betfred Women's Super League Coach of the Year. 

The former Man of Steel and Lance Todd Trophy winner took his first job in the women's game with Wigan at the start of the 2024 season and has revolutionised the side. 

Under his leadership, Wigan Warriors have continued to set the benchmark in the women's game throughout the 2026 season. In his third year as head coach, Betts has guided the Warriors to the Betfred Women's Challenge Cup and League Leaders' Shield, building on the success of the club's historic quadruple-winning campaign in 2025. 

The Warriors have been the competition's standout team in 2026, winning the Women's Challenge Cup with a commanding 54-6 victory over St Helens at Wembley Stadium and finishing top of the Women's Super League table to secure direct qualification for the Grand Final.  

Under Betts' guidance, Wigan won 12 consecutive matches to open their league and cup campaign, scoring 350 points and conceding just 82 in the Challenge Cup, while finishing the regular Super League season as League Leaders. 

Denis Betts will be presented with the Betfred Women’s Super League Coach of the Year award at the Rugby League Awards Night in Manchester on Tuesday September 29 – when the 2026 Woman of Steel, and BWSL Young Player of the Year, will also be crowned.

Tickets for the Betfred Women’s Grand Final between Wigan Warriors and York Valkyrie (KO 5.30pm) are on sale now, with unreserved seating available in the East Stand of The Brick Community Stadium.

Tickets are priced at £15 for adults and £5 for juniors.

The Grand Final will also form part of a double-header, with the Promotion Play-Off Final taking place ahead of the main event between the winners of the Women’s Championship and the team finishing fourth in the BWSL Shield Competition.
