BWhcSL: Round 8 Round Up

Edinburgh Giants claimed their second Super League win in a row with an impressive 74-30 win at Leeds Rhinos.

Leeds, one of the major contenders for the title, were missing several players due to England international training, so player-coach James Simpson-Hill selected himself for the first time since their 2024 Grand Final win, and also gave a debut to Ray Griffin.

Edinburgh were dominant throughout and went into a 50-4 half-time lead with Stuart Williams who was the star of the show, going over for eight tries. David Hill contributed two tries, whilst Calum Davidson, Mark Robertson and Ben Rowlings all scored once. Davidson converted 11 times.

Leeds, with Finley Butler their only first half scorer, tried their best to make a comeback in the second half. Cameron Hills scored a hat-trick of tries, with Charlie Wagstaff and Tom Halliwell, who also kicked three goals, going over once each.

Wigan Warriors defeated Bradford Bulls 108-18 on Saturday.

The Bulls were still in the game at half-time, where the score was a competitive 32-18, but Wigan scored 13 tries without reply in the second half to claim a comfortable victory.

Wigan took the lead through Matthew Turner, the first of his 11 tries in this match. His fellow Welsh international Mark Williams converted, and he went on to kick two more goals in the first half.

Bradford to hit back thanks to a Keiron Johnson penalty. Then Michael Potter scored a try and Johnson converted to give Bradford an 8-6 lead on 10 minutes.

However, their advantage didn’t last long, as Wigan scored again on 13 minutes through a Chris Greenhalgh try - the first of his hat-trick.

Jack Heggie scored a hat-trick of tries and 12 goals during the game, Adam Rigby went over for a brace of tries, whilst Reece Duddle kicked a solitary goal.

London Roosters kept up the pressure at the top of the table, with a 58-22 win against Hull FC, after being 28-12 up at half-time.

Jason Owen topped the points scorers for London, thanks to his three tries and nine goals, with Max Owen beating him on the try-count, going over for five. Jack Linden and Ellie Cockerton each crossed once.

Liam Stancliffe scored two tries for Hull, whilst Nathan Sherwood and Karl Shepherd, who also kicked three goals, each went over once.
