The Black & Whites land Liu for 2027

Hull FC have announced signing of New Zealand international forward Isaac Liu for the 2027 Betfred Super League season.

The vastly experienced 35-year-old has signed a one-year deal with the Black & Whites, bringing 350 games of experience to the MKM Stadium.

A three-time NRL winner with Sydney Roosters in Australia, Liu’s leadership traits and wealth of experience will supplement those of Daly Cherry-Evans, whose signing was announced by Hull FC last week.

The wheels are firmly in motion with regards to Hull FC’s recruitment for the 2027 season. Within the last fortnight, the club have announced the signings of Bailey Hodgson, Alrix Da Costa, Cherry-Evans, and now Isaac Liu – with more set to follow.

Liu is another player set to be reunited with Hull’s incoming Head Coach, Steve McNamara, in 2027. McNamara was the assistant coach at Sydney Roosters when the Kiwi forward made his senior debut for Easts in 2013.

He went on to make over 200 appearances for the Roosters, winning three Grand Finals in the NRL.

In 2022, Liu went from Bondi to the Gold Coast, where he joined the Titans for three seasons before venturing to the Northern Hemisphere and Super League.

Leigh Leopards signed the experienced forward ahead of the 2025 Betfred Super League campaign, and Liu has been a key leader in Adrian Lam’s side across the last two seasons.

In the twilight years of his stellar career, often regarded for many forwards as their best years on the field, the 35-year-old will wear Black & White next season.

Speaking to hullfc.com about the move to East Yorkshire, Liu said: “I’m massively excited for what’s ahead. Me and my family are looking forward to a new journey.

“Steve McNamara was a key driving factor behind joining the club. I know Steve well from when we worked together at the Roosters and we had some good conversations about how I can help get Hull FC back to where it needs to be.

“I’ve really enjoyed playing in England over the last couple of years. It’s different to Australia, but myself and the family have really embraced the culture and we’re looking forward to a new chapter over in Hull.

“Hopefully I can help inspire some of the young players by bringing my game and showing them how I operate. I hope I can help them take their own games to another level.”

Hull FC Chief Executive, Richie Myler, added: “Isaac is such an experienced player with great leadership qualities and he will be a really important addition both on and off the field for us in 2027.

“He is a player who holds himself to a very high standard and he expects everyone in the squad to uphold those standards on their part – I think that is going to be a really important asset for us.

“Steve [McNamara] knows him well from the time they spent together at the Roosters. He’s got a bit of versatility about him in terms of where he can play in the forward pack, so when the opportunity arose to bring Isaac to Hull for a year, it was one that we worked hard to get over the line.”
