Max Jowitt and 10,000+ Trinity fans are heading to Old Trafford

Wakefield Trinity supporters will be heading to Old Trafford in their numbers, with more than 10,000 tickets already sold for next Saturday's Betfred Super League Grand Final.

Trinity booked their place in their biggest game of the season in stunning fashion, producing one of the performances of the year to emphatically end Wigan Warriors' 15-match winning run and secure a famous Semi-Final victory.

Three years on from relegation, Wakefield are now just 80 minutes away from completing one of the most remarkable turnarounds in recent Super League history.

For hometown hero Max Jowitt, the achievement is one that means everything.

One of the longest-serving members of the current squad, Jowitt has been at the heart of Trinity's resurgence and will now have the opportunity to help write his name into Wakefield folklore at Old Trafford.

Speaking after the Semi-Final triumph, Jowitt paid tribute to both his teammates and the travelling support that roared Trinity on to victory.

“I’m just speechless. I think a lot of people wrote us off straight away, and we had the belief in the team and our camp that we had to come here and do a job, and we were 100% confident we could do that.

“Without our fans, it probably wouldn't have been possible, but I'm so proud of this team.

“We’ve got one more to go. That was an unbelievable game. 1-17 were unbelievable.

“I hope the new name on the trophy is ours. If we show up next week and play like that, we've got a very good chance. It's a new week; we've got to back that up now on the biggest stage. I’m made up, we've worked so hard this year and we deserve it.

“So, we'll work hard next week, recover well this weekend and we'll give it everything next week to try and lift that trophy.”

Wakefield owner Matt Ellis was equally emotional after watching his side secure a first Grand Final appearance, describing the victory over Wigan as the finest display of his time at the club.

Having invested heavily in Trinity's revival, Ellis has witnessed the club climb from the Championship back to the sport's biggest stage, and he believes there could be one final chapter still to come.

“It’s not quite sunk in yet. What a performance. That was the best performance in my time owning club, I’m so proud of them.

“It’s dreamland. We got them back today.

“I had a good feeling all week about it and I think all the pressure was on Wigan. We came here and were confident - the lads have got great togetherness.”

Wakefield's proud history is reflected around the club's stadium, where black-and-white photographs serve as reminders of past successes. Ellis now hopes the Class of 2026 can create a modern image to stand alongside them.

“One week and hopefully we can put some colour on that wall. That’s the dream. What a story - three years after relegation and now we’re there.”

Standing in Trinity's way are Warrington Wolves, with the two clubs set to meet at Old Trafford on Saturday 3 October (K.O. 6pm)

Whatever happens, a new name will be engraved on the Super League trophy, with both sides chasing a first ever Grand Final win.

For Wakefield, the dream is now within touching distance.
