Final Round Review of the Betfred Wheelchair Super League
10 hrs

Edinburgh Giants have closed out the regular season of the Betfred Wheelchair Super League with an historic first ever Super League victory in their game against Sheffield Eagles.
After making history earlier this year as the first Scottish representative in the League, the Giants have fought hard to secure their first victory. The Giants won by a 28-50 margin which sees the Eagles finish the season at the bottom of the table.
Giants player Olivia Fulton expressed her joy in securing this win:
“What a day for the club, it feels great to register our first win in the Super League. We have been working so hard, taking the lessons from each game and focusing on continual improvement.
“We know we still have a long way to go, but this shows we are heading in the right direction.”
Head Coach Martyn Gill seconded Fulton’s joy:
“We went close against Hull 2 weeks ago, and there were certainly lessons we took from that game into our performance today. We got the job done and I’m delighted for the group. Today is another historic day for our young club as we claim our first ever Super League win.”
As the Play-Offs draw closer, the League Leaders’ Shield winner remains uncertain as Leeds Rhinos postponed their final match against Halifax Panthers - with a new fixture date to be confirmed.
What is certain, however, is that for the first time in Wheelchair Super League history there will be a new team to lift the League Leaders’ shield. Since the origin of the league in 2019 the Rhinos have clinched top spot on every occasion. However, their current table position means they will fall short this year regardless of a win against the Panthers.
Fighting for that top spot are London Roosters and Halifax Panthers, who met earlier this year in the Wheelchair Challenge Cup final. The Panthers are looking to add to their silverware after beating the Roosters 46-24 in that match-up, whilst the Roosters are seeking redemption.
The Roosters enjoyed a 26-30 victory at Hull FC on Sunday, taking them three points clear of the Rhinos. However, should Halifax secure a final regular season victory over Leeds, they will lift the League Leaders’ shield due to their superior points difference.
Dates and venues for the Play-Offs will be confirmed in the coming days.
